What am I doing wrong? When I import bmp's, and then try to select one from the properties bitmap tab, all of the bitmaps (or only some of them, occasionally) are not visible. My blind clicking success ratio is only about 35%, so that doesn't qualify as a workaround.

Another error I sometimes get in this process is a pop up message that says part of the "you have successfully imported a gallery" message, but keeps popping back up when I click "ok." Sometimes it will go away after 15 or so clicks, usually I give it the three finger salute, losing unsaved changes. Again, not an acceptable workaround.

Am I alone on this? Can someone state the proper way to import and use bmp's.

Best regards...

Create or use a designed bmp (must be 4bit grayscale) and open the bitmaps in neoedit. Select import. Select the bmp you want to import and "ok" it. I recommend creating a "new bmp" folder in neoedit and place them in there. If your not using 4bit grayscale bmp's you will run into problems.

I have encountered the same problem. I believe it is related to your PC resources. If I have other programs running which are "memory hogs" the same problem occurs. It happens especially using graphics design programs b/c they are big RAM users. If you run into this problem, simply close other open programs. Either that or increase your system's RAM.

I think you are right tkrub... although resources and RAM are two separate and unrelated issues. The problem does seem to occur when I have used MSPaint before or during a NeoEdit session.

What happens if you inadvertently import a bmp that has more than 4 colors? Does NeoEdit convert them somehow? I have discovered that the white/black/grey/dark grey in MSPaint's default color pallette don't match the colors used in the icons I've downloaded here (although they were close enough that i failed to notice the difference when I tweaked them). Do I have to re-tweak all of these bmp's? Please say no.

Technically isn't the Neo a 2bit color screen
00, 01, 10, 11 thus four colors. Anyway, I found that the software would display the bitmap like normal, but that in the NEO the bitmap would be aproximated - the closest color would display. Not fun - it gave me a headache. I adjusted the contrast but that only helps so much... I ended up reediting my bitmaps.

Black: 0,0,0,
Dark Grey: 85,85,85
Light Grey: 170,170,170
White: 255,255,255
