Hoping someone knows of a better way to deal with the following:

My wife never remembers to turn off all the components.

So I made a macro to do it, but the problem is, the OFF is really a toggle of OFF/ON, so that anything that was off will now get turned on!

Only way I could think to combat this is to have an ALL ON macro she uses to start, and then the ALL OFF to finish, but I don't like wasting energy by having all my components when only 1 or 2 are needed.

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, didn't really see it when searching.

Did notice on "some" components, the "OFF" button always turns things off, and is not a toggle, but I think this is component specific??

Thanks for any help/advice

well, do a search for "discrete codes". You can find discrete ON and discrete OFF codes for most equipment. Many users' NCF's include discrete codes.

Thanks for the info. I was actually doing that before your post. :)

I've managed to get discrete codes for almost all my components, but can't seem to get one for off/on for my panasonic vcr. I have the same problem for my yamaha receiver which toggles 6 channel input on/off when you select tv or dvd as the source. :(

How do people get these discrete codes, ie where do they come from? How can I find out if my equipment supports it, and how to get the codes?

From what I've found on panasonic so far in the files section and other users ncf, only power toggle is supported. Does that mean I'm SOL? I did find some codes in the pronto section, but they didn't work for my device.

Any other suggestions? Thanks and sorry for all the newbie questions

Yeah, there are some panasonic devices which don't support discrete codes.

As for more discrete codes, the OneForAll programmable remotes (and radioshack carries their own version) are a great source. I have a OneForAll Cinema6 and you can find discrete codes on the internet for this remote....program these advanced codes into the oneforall remote...and then use it to teach codes to your neo. Thats how I got most of my discrete power and mode change codes.

I had the same problem! I've created a CCF with a panel that contains each of the possible devices I can be watching - ie DSS, DVD, VCR, HDTV - Each of those buttons on the "all off" screen will power off only the things that are on while watching that device. I have "switch" and "switch to" panels also that work the same way.
Download my ccf at:

Pay special attention to the Macro button "all off" and also the panels "Switch" and "switch to" They work like a charm after programming to your devices.
No discrete on/off codes are needed for the way this is set up. Good luck!
