Well, I use Windows XP and I have a serial mouse.
My mouse was installed in the COM1 port and the COM2 port was not activated at the BIOS, so I had to activated it. Now windows shows this port and tells me (inside the devices manager) that it is working correctly.
After the activation I tried to open the Firmware Update Manager and NEOEDit and both programs could not find any serial port.
I thought maybe it could be that my COM2 port had a problem, so I changed the COM ports. Now my mouse, wich is functioning perfectly, is installed at COM2 and my TSU500 at COM1. So it is not a problem with my COM ports.
With this new port configuration I tried again to open the Firmware Update Manager and NEOEdit but they failed to recognize any serial port.
I read all the information inside this forum and tried everything but it still does not work. I don´t know what to do anymore.
For example, I tried to close any programs as DanZeman said, that could be using a COM Port and started the programs but they still couldn´t recongnize any ports.
The only option I have to choose is NO PORTS FOUND!!!!
Strange thing:
One thing happenned that MAYBE could explain my problem. When I first activated COM2 inside the BIOS, at the Windows XP startup it appeared one icon at the bottom right corner telling me that Windows found a new hardware. However this icon dissapeared five minutes later and then after many boot ups it never showed again.
Another strange thing:
A friend of mine, said that Windows cannot work with TWO serial ports at the same time. He said that one would be in conflict with another. I find it really strange. At first, I don´t believe in that. Maybe it could be a little bit hard but I don´t think that this is impossible. Do you think that my solution is to use a USB mouse?

In advance, thank you very much for the time you had reading everything and trying to help me. I will be waiting for your answer!

Sincerely,
André Gabriel!

this may be a stupid question, but did you select the com port settings within the neoedit software?

Windows can work with many serial ports.

The problem is more likely to be that some piece(s) of software on your system have grabbed them. For example, fax server, network dialup, modem driver etc.

I'm not sure how you find out which software it is - but there's a thread about it somewhere in this forum...... ah. here it is:

In NeoEdit, select "Options" from the menu bar. Under Options choose "connection". Then you select which port you have your Neo connected to. If it is plugged into port 1 choose Com1 if port 2 choose Com2.

If that doesn't work look into what Dave posted. He is correct that many devices will "take over" a Com port and it wouldn't be obvious other than your device not working. I just asked about the NeoEdit settings b/c sometimes it is the simplest solution that works.

Tkrug,I thought you were talking about the settings of the COM Port such as Bits per second, Data bits, Parity, Stop bit or Flux Control.

But the Connection Menu under Options I already did try and I find just NO PORTS FOUND instead of Com1 or Com2.

As I said, I have already tried closing programs wich could be taking over the com ports. But I still cannot comunicate with Pronto NEO.

Thank you,
André.

Does the device manager show any conflicts? Any items with RED X's? What about the properties of each COM port? If you right click on the port and choose PROPERTIES, what is the status of each? Are they working properly? What are your settings? I'm running XP and my COM1 settings are:
Bits per sec: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: none
stop bits: 1
flow control: xon / xoff

Under the Resources tab, are there any conflicts showing for either port?

Problem solved!

Windows has many problems on using a Mouse in a serial Port and another device in the other serial port!

Now I am using an USB mouse and NEOEdit can identify the free COM Ports!!!

Everything is working now!
