Does anyone know of a font with common universal remote symbols in it? What I really want is icons like CD/DVD disc, VCR, Tape, satellite, cable, TV, Widescreen TV, etc. I'm interested in doing more (free) graphic interfaces, but I'd really like to dress up the Main screen particularly.
Any help or pointers would be gladly accepted.

If you are an mx3000 user, I beieve the "Webdings" font contains the transport symbols. This is also a standard issue MS Word Font.
for the record:
3 = Left Arrow 4 = Right Arrow 5 = Up Arrow 6 = Down Arrow 7 = Rew (<<) 8 = FF (>>) 9 = Skip - (|<) : = Skip + (>|) ; = Pause < = Stop = = Record

Thanks, but unfortunately I was really looking for device symbols. Like the image of a satellite dish to indicate satellite TV, or a disc to goto a DVD player. Like all the supplied MX-3000 templates have on the Main page. If anyone has any tips on where I could get some I could use for this purpose please let me know. I'd love to see how much a little symbology might dress up any skins I release.

While they do have some okay icons in their font (although many seem to have been 'harvested' from other fonts!), their license agreement states you can only use the font for personal use and cannot use it for any purpose that might compete with their own products. As I would be offering the skins for free, and they sell them for an obscene amount ($250 PER PERSON!!), I suspect they would consider that competition. ;-)

Sean,
Since you dont specifically say so, I can only assume you are using the MX-3000.
You can not use any fonts that are not currently available in the MX-Editor. The only way to use a font outside of those available is to make static images of the exact words you are looking for. If you are going to do this, the Satellite, Cable, DVD Icons you are wanting would look much better if they were colored/rendered versions than if used as a 2-tone font rendition.

Sorry, yes I'm using the MX-3000 (the one I won in the contest), and I would be rendering the buttons in question with the symbols/text. I am looking for the device symbols in a font form for ease of implementation. I wanted to create something of a cross between my contest entry (Cinnamon) and the sample templates that come with the MX-3000 Editor.
I am open to other sources for the icons though, like WMF. Did you have a vector source for them?
I suspect the regular posters here would not be interested in templates, as they develop their own graphics. This is going to make it tough to get what people want to the people who would want it... but I feel if I won the remote I should try to afford the time to give back to the community here. Besides I would like to try a few interface ideas I've got. If I created a sample graphic is anyone interested in commenting on it (constructively obviously)? I've used the Webdings and Wingding fonts for icons, but I didn't want to go forward with that if it wasn't considered good enough by others.

Hi Sean,
I wanted to say I really liked your Cinnamon template. I was very disappointed with the stock MX-3000 templates and was looking forward to see all the contest entries. There were some fantastic designs, but again I was disappointed. Although many of the entries were very good, the problem was they lacked the 'elements' of the design that would make the template usable and extensible for someone else. I think cinnamon actually came the closest to something like this.
IMO, what the MX-3000 community is missing is a complete repository of cohesive design elements one could use to build a very nice RCC--a la what Daniel Tonks has done for the various Prontos--without spending a ton of money.
In that sense, I applaud your efforts and look forward to seeing what you come up with.
To answer your original question, I don't know of any fonts. The ProntoPro editor has some very nice source/device icons built-in that you may be able to use. Also Daniel recently released his ProntoPro template which contains a many source/device icons. He might be willing to share his original artwork...?
