1. Don't know for sure but presumably you could just enter a couple of spaces for text and end up with a blank line.

2. Looks like it works like the MX-1000, which is to say you push the MAIN button to go to the full listing of devices.

3. It says FAV, for the two favorite channel pages.

4. At CES, I was told February by the HTM people.

Yes, it works like the MX-1000. You push main to go to the full listing of devices. Press your device. Then page, to toggle between the two device pages. Then Main to return to the list of devices.

The 10 default devices are only there to start. If you have no TAPE player, but have two VCR's, you can have those on the main screen, and change the device to have the pre-programmed codes for VCR's and not tape.

Or if 20 functions can't handle your component, and you only have 8 components, you can always have two device buttons with different functions for the same device (appropriately labelled). The perfect Button Person's remote!

It won't be out until February, because HTM is being very conscious of our requests, and are implementing as many as they possibly can. No Discreet codes or Advanced codes, but only OFA really has those. And you can always buy a cheap Cinema 7 to get those discreet codes.

Look for other changes that will enhance the remote!

Greg, Stephen,

On the "press-and-hold" feature: not confusing at all. The T2 has this feature, and I think it is great. If you make the delay long enough (user selectable, but say e.g. 2 seconds), you will not accidentally get to the DVD menu, as Stephen mentioned. Believe me, holding down a button for 2 seconds is a conscious effort. You don't do that easily by mistake.

And Greg, no risk of repetitive chapter skip commands either. In the T2, the IR commands are not actually sent until either:
- the button has been released
- or the delay time has expired

So, the chapter command is sent AFTER the button is released IF pressed for less than 2 seconds, otherwise the menu command is sent right at 2 seconds (while you may still be holding the button down).

Works like a charm.

Hmm OK I guess it can work like that. Drawback is you can't use hold to repeat for chapter skip, I guess that's not too bad. Also it would be kind of annoying to have to hold down a key for that long for a frequently used function like menu. I'd probably bail and just use "pre channel" as the menu key.

Greg that's "discrete" not "discreet".

I am not sure if this has been requested for change, but I will put my vote out for this feature.

Macro feature: The time delay between the steps of a macro to be adjustable.

If it is like the MX-1000 where it has a .5sec delay between IR commands that can be a bit long for a macro with several steps.

I see iffy postings regarding Sony. My Sony remotes have a joy stick and it's great and fast and like this feature on the MX-500. I have a Sony A/V receiver and would like to know if I can have the sound field parameters on the MX-500. I am constantly moving the volume of the rear, center speakers, as well as the sub woofer, depending on program content. I only use a few favorite sound fields, so I don't need them all, which would actually be a smiplification. Any other Sony caveats I should know about?
Thanks.

PS: the receiver is an STR-DE935 using a RM-LJ302 two way Remote Commander

I have forwarded the request for a 2 second hold of the MENU, etc. sub buttons, implemented in the way Arjen has explained, to Home Theater Master. Sounds very workable.

I have also forwarded once again the VOL/CHAN button change. It seems that the CHANNEL button should be under the FAV chanel button. This, however, may not be doable, due to it being a physical change.

I have also re-requested the ability to choose between .25 and .5 spaces between macro functions.

Ok, I'm ready to own one. February is not far off.

I have printed out the picture scaled to life size and placed it on my coffee table. It looks good; I even reached for it only to realize that it is just a picture. It also has met the "Wife Acceptance Factor" at least so far on paper.

Just having a little fun. :-D

Mark: You're a crazy man like me!!! Lusting after that remote, eh???!!! I think this puppy is a real winner!

Remember, that 5 way "joystick" can be defined functions! And, now the "power" and "system off" buttons can have macros.

You gotta love HTM for listening to us!!!

I like the idea of cutting it out and checking out the overall look and getting the "wife acceptance"!!! lol

Thanks for the laugh!

Greg :-)

......... now where are those scissors!!!!

I too have already checked to verify it meets the "wife acceptance factor". She bought off on it, and her only comments were:

1. Gee, it still has a lot of buttons, doesn't it (comparing it to our current URC-8080 and the RCU810 which I had planned to replace it, but took back).

2. Now this will be the LAST remote that you get, right? To which I replied, "Of course! This one will last forever!"

I think all the latest reviews should not only have the "fluffy blanket test", but also the "wife acceptance factor". It could be displayed in an analog meter showing overall acceptance.

Mark-

In my case that meter would go from 0 to 1. 0 would be "You're not getting another remote, I haven't learned how to use the last one yet" and 1 would be "Okay, but I'm using the old one."

Greg-

Watch out man! Don't forget you're a newlywed and you just got an MX-1000.

It's probably a good thing they postponed the release, it gives me more time to come up with reasons why "we" need a new remote.

Good luck guys!

Thanks for forwarding that feature request Greg. I have been happy with it so far. I also use it for my discrete power commands on my T2 power button.

Man this MX puppy is something else....being a buttonist, I have got to have me one of these! For me, it will depend on one thing: if that upcoming Phaser remote extender will do the job or not. Because there is NO way I am going back from RF to IR. Perhaps we can talk HTM into releasing an RF model later, with an IR base station like the RCU810...wa-hey!

Well, kids, HTM is still adding features, so keep a watch on this thread, and I'll keep you abreast when I'm allowed to post them.

It's only going to get better and better!

Arjen: I'm confused. What do you mean by "I have been happy with it so far."? The T2 or what you see in the MX-500?

Stephen: Thanks. I'll try to remember it's "discrete". :-)
