I used the link posted by Pilgram and it worked but not
exactly as described. Try

1) Press and hold Power
2) Enter 0,0,0,9,0
3) Release Power

If this does not work. would you mind posting the exact
set of keys you are pressing to determine if the Mitsu
remote will send the descrete codes including such items
as if the device/input button has a top and bottom and
which one you are pressing.

Also, have you used the learn function on the MX-500 before?
How about learn on the Cinema 7? I taught the commands
to and old Cinema 6 and then downloaded them. We might
be able to give you commands to enter on Cinema 7 that
could then be used to teach MX500.

I want to make sure you read the edited version of this post.

Yes I did read your edit and I also had to edit my last post so you might want to reread it. I wish I could try your new suggestion now but it will have to wait unless I thought I could talk my mom through the procedure later on today.

By the way the keys that I have been pressing are:

Ant1 - Input followed by 9
Input1 - Input followed by 1
Input2 - Input followed by 8
Component1 - Input followed by 5
Standard - Format followed by 1
Stretch - Format followed by 4
Stretch Plus - Format followed by 5

To be honest I didn't actually try all of these because when the first two didn't work I didn't try the rest. Just to clarify, there is a single "Input" button and a single "Format" button on the Mit remote and after pushing either one you then use the 4-way thumbpad to cycle through each input or format. You basically have to push the right side of the thumbpad to cycle through the inputs and then push the left side of the thumbpad to cycle back across the inputs.

Okay my mom lives in the country and we had about 3" of
snow last night, I just called her and she thinks I need
to wait a day or two so the roads can clear up some so
I guess I will have to wait to try out your suggested
procedure James.

It's still not clear to me though, if after changing the
Mit code to present the Descrete codes if I will have
confirmation at that point whether they work or not.

For example if after changing the Mit code I push "Input
and then 1 will it change the tv input to that input while
I'm in front of the tv confirming that the descrete code
does indeed work?

The TV should respond to the mitsu rempte by changing inputs. It may not do anything if you already have that input selected.

Okay that's what I thought it should do but clearly the tv did not respond to the descrete codes when I followed the procedure yesterday. Hopefully your instructions - 1) Press and hold Power 2) Enter 0,0,0,9,0 3) Release Power will work.

mccoady, check your e-mail.

It's too long to post here.

If it works, I'll post the results.

Still haven't made it out to my moms but I had my nephew run up to her house and try some things for me, I had him try the original Mit descrete code procedure and then James way and neither worked. He said he couldn't see the Power light flashing twice after the first 0 and after the last 0 to confirm a successful code entry. Funny thing is I thought for sure when I tried the Mit codes the other day I did get the Power light flashing to confirm a successful entry even though the descrete codes didn't work, I guess I was wrong.

I am so surprised the Mit descrete codes don't work with this 2006 tv when everyone else says it works for them, if I'm doing something wrong I sure don't know what.

Since I can't get the Mit codes to work what can I use as a work around for a Macro since to go through the inputs since you must push the input button and then use the right side of the thumbpad to cycle through (across in this case) and then the left side of the thumbpad to cycle back through (across) them.

What do I use as an anchor for a Macro with a situation like this?

For what its worth, the lights did not flash on my remote but it did send the descrete codes as described. If you're trusting enough to mail either the Cinema 7 or MX500, I'll be happy to teach it the commands and mail back to you. Send me a private message if interested.

On another note, are you familar with the entry of advanced function codes into the Cinema 7?

If you intend to do this type project in the future, from expereince, I suggest you invest in a PC based remote. This will allow you to get files from places like RC that have the codes you need.

By the way CH+ is a common anchor for cycling through inputs -- it usually goes to ANT1.

Okay. I had not setup my AV computer until today. So with some software and Hardware from Global Cache and IR Tool here is a possible solution:

Using Cinema 7

PART I - (TV mode for Mitsubishi)

1.Press TV
2.Press and hold SETUP until 2 blinks then release
3.Enter 0 1 5 0

PART II – (Assign EFC to Keypad keys )

Using the following table, repeat ASSIGN for each discrete code to map each of these to the numeric keypad numbers so it will be easy to teach them to the MX500.

1.Input 1 -- 199
2.Input 2 -- 071
3.Ant 1 -- 185
4.Comp1 – 073
5.Narrow -- 096
6.Stretch -- 064
7.Stretch+ -- 128
8.Expand -- 000
9.Standard – 192

ASSIGN

1.Press TV
2.Press and hold SETUP until 2 blinks then release
3.Enter 9 9 4
4.Press and release SETUP
5.Enter 3 digit number from table above (for example 1 9 9 for Input 1)
6.Press any key to assign discrete code (for example 1)

PART III - (Teach MX500 new codes for use in macros)

Teach each of the commands to the MX500

Thanks James for taking all the time to look up these codes. Since I have an extra MX-500 I'm very tempted to send it to you so you could program it for me but surely with your excellent instructions I can do this.

I'll go ahead and try programing these codes to my Cinema 7 and maybe even to my extra MX-500 but I guess I won't know for sure if I've done it right until I'm actually in front of my mom's tv.

I haven't used the Cinema 7 for quite awhile, can you just program over any existing programing or do you have to somehow erase what's in the remote?

Will these descrete codes for sure work on my mom's tv?

Since this is a great opportunity for me to get the Mit codes would it be possible I could also get:
1. Ant 2
2. Comp 2
3. Comp 3

I don't anticipate doing a project like this again but will keep in mind a PC based remote if I decide to upgrade in the future. How easy is it to program a PC based remote? I could actually get the Mit codes from this site if I had a PC based remote? What is out there that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

No, you don't have to erase anything, but tv code 0150 has to be programmed to the tv device. Other advanced codes are here.

Once the advanced codes are mapped to keys on the cinema 7, if you were to program a different tv code, those advanced codes would still be there until they were cleared.

Yes

Given what has happened .. nothing is for sure but this all worked on my Mitsu TV using a Cinema 6 remote.

I actually did not look these up. I have a Global Cache IRL device which reads an IR signal and displays it in Pronto Hex. I then copied that Hex code into the IRTool software located at hifi-remote.com and decoded the signal into UEI device and EFC format. It may be several days before I have time to hook this back up but I will at some point. In the meantime, you should try the codes from the link Edmund listed and post back if you still need any codes.

If you don't do this often a PC remote may be hard to master but in terms of low cost you might go to ebay and pick up a used pronto just for the sake of having something you can get codes and then teach to other remotes -- I don't like touch screens in actual use but everyone is different. If you are looking for a great remote the URC line is tops for me in hard button versions. The 850 is very similar to the 500 in button layout and you should be able to find one cheap at one of the authorized dealers. Also, I have not touched one but the 810 with the new wizard programing might be a choice. Maybe one of the dealers will give their opinion for a n infrequent remote programmer.

Hey James don't worry about the extra codes I didn't realize it was a hassle you've already helped me plenty, I'll do without or try Edmonds link.

Should I start a new thread since I have some questions about the 850 and 810 or just ask here?

I was glad to help. It gave me a chance to use the new hardware. I'd start another thread to get maximum input on another remote

Descrete codes worked yes!!! Unfortunately FedEx is a week late in delivering her remote.

On another note I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with programming her Onkyo AV receiver On and Off. Right now the audio and video of all of her devices are running straight into the Onkyo with it's video output going back to Video Input 1. Of course to watch her outside antenna for her local hi-def channels I have to switch the tv input to Ant 1.

Anyway everytime my mom turns on the tv I also need it to turn on the Onkyo (or there won't be any sound) plus when I turn off the tv I need it to turn off the Onkyo. How do I accomplish this?

I've never used a Power On and System Off Macro before but if I do that won't I loose the ability to actually use the Power button to turn off and on all her other devices? I would like to keep the ability to turn her dvd and vcr on and off using the power button if possible, I'm open to idea's on how to do this...

I haven't used a MX-500 in years so I'm not sure but my best guesses:

1) Create a macro on the power on and off buttons for the tv that turns the TV and Receiver on/off together
2) Create a dummy device that you use to control power for devices
3) If the 500 has a favorites button map on and off inside those pages

Hope this helps but another thread may get input from someone more familair with the 500.
