I've noticed my IR signal strength is extremely weak. If my foot is between the remote and my components, the signal is blocked and the remote must be pointed pretty much directly at the components. Is this normal?

My HTM/UR remotes had very powerful IR signals--I could aim the remote in the opposite direction and they would still work and a foot would never create an issue.

Perhaps it's the rechargeable battery? I've noticed that starts to fade pretty quickly.

I have the same problem. If i don't aim directly at the component< no action takes place. This is much different than my previous Harmony 659 which could be pointed in the general area. Any settings that can be changed to correct this?

i had similar issues with my initial h1. my old 720 had much better ir strength then the new remote. it turned out that the h1 was a faulty unit and it was replaced with a new remote by harmony. the new unit works flawlessly with excellent signal strength. i'd recommend exchanging yours for a new unit at the store or calling harmony tech support to arrange an exchange.

No, it's not normal that your foot is between the remote and your components. It should be lower...like on the floor or an ottoman.

But, seriously...I have the H-1 and I can aim it backwards and it works.

I called Harmony and they had me do a firmware update which certainly improved the signal strength. Stray feet are no longer an issue.

They should have checking for a firmware update as part of the routine set-up, IMO, or at least a message from the server letting you know your remote is not up to date. At some point I was going to check, but some message or another discouraged me. I don't recall what it was.

Thanks for the help.

This is actually part of the update process... upon initial setup, the remote firmware is usually (or always) updated. Sometimes the firmware doesn't update properly so you should do it again.
