I currently own a harmony 670 remote and I am updating to a Harmony One. I had one question. Are there dedicated buttons for picture and sound like there are on the 670. I don't see them on the Harmony One hard buttons. I use those buttons a lot, because my tv has a lot of picture controls that I have access often. If the One doesn't have them, how are the picture and sound controls handled? Thanks in advance

The Harmony One doesn't have the Picture and Sound buttons. You would have o go into the menus for your TV and Sound system to make those changes or add the commands to the startup of your activity or create a sequence of up to 5 commands to get to your picture and sound menus if possible.

When you say "go into the menus", what does that exactly mean? Is it a harder process than simply having a picture and sound button? Since the 670 is the only harmony I've ever owned, I guess I'm not used to having the picture and sound buttons. Thanks

heels,
the one does not have dedicated picture and sound hard buttons, but you can easily add those two buttons to be touch screen buttons that are available in any activity you choose. if you use them very often i'd put them in the two lowest slots on the screen as they'll be well w/in thumb's reach.

that's correct. you can put them on any activity's screen and you can have up to six commands per screen (2w x 3h). you can also have multiple screens of commands per activity.

Clarification: The Sound and Picture buttons are shortcuts to the Sound and Display device modes with their own independent button mapping. Without them, you either use the device mode, or map the most desirable Sound/Display commands to the activities (hard or soft) keys as mentioned by Squareeyes.

Thanks jlet: So if I am watching tv through my PVR, would Ibe able to program the menu key from my television on the touchscreen? I would think if I programmed the menu key, it would be the pvr menu, and not the tv menu.
If what you are saying is right, I couldn't just ad the picture key to the touchscreen because it has a bunch of independent controls? Am I then back to having to go through the device key? thanks

Correct - Picture and Sound are not IR commands - they just allow you access to 2 sets of independent button maps which you don't have on the One. You would either press Devices and select the TV (or Receiver), then press Current Activity to return when you're done. Not quite as elegant as Sound and Picture but not bad. The alternative is to add the most used commands from the TV and Receiver to the activity buttons so you don't have to leave the activity at all.

Akirby: If I choose to add the most used commands to my activity I'm still confused how the remote will know that command to be specific to my tv. For example, my tv has a menu command which takes me into the color controls of my Samsung Tv. However my activity is labeled "Watch PVR". If I add the menu command, won't it be the menu command for the PVR which is a totally different thing then the color controls I'm looking for.

An activity consists of a collection of participating devices, and the Activity Customize Buttons will force you to select a device (from the participating list). You can also use the activity sequence feature (also under the Activity Customize Buttons) which allows mapping a sequence of commands to a key. It will ask you to select a device (from the participating list) for each command in the sequence.

There is a prominent up/down arrow toggle in the top section with the menus. Since there is also a full cursor control wheel just below, this up/down toggle is not naturally needed for most devices. The software defaults to leave it blank or to use it to duplicate an already available function (like chapter +/- for a DVD player). I have programmed it to punch through to the video selection toggle (up) and the picture size toggle (down) on my TV for all activities. You could do the same with any audio toggle control. This is not as useful as full menu controls, but if you need these you can got to the TV or A/V receiver via the device list.

My use of the up/down toggle didn't work because I tend to reflexively hit the toggle for up and down when navigating guides and menus, the buttons for which are nearby. I reprogrammed the + and E keys on the bottom instead to activate my video settings. Hope this helps.
