I have a westinghouse TV and a Sony Receiver running on the Harmony One.

Everything is working great, and I love the remote - but one thing drives me crazy. When I Vol Up or Down, the volume on both my TV AND my Receiver go up and down. I only want to control the volume through my receiver, and not use the TV's internal speakers.

Problem is, this westinghouse TV model doesnt have a built in mute option, so I need to control it through the harmony.

I think the ir command to control volume on my tv and my receiver are the same. The sony remote even has built in tv controls.

Any ideas?

Does the volume control on the OEM Sony receiver remote also control the TV volume?
Does the volume control on the OEM Westinghouse TV remote also control the receiver volume?
Do you know if your Sony receiver supports an alternate IR address mode (AV1, AV2)?
What are the model numbers?

Sony Receiver STR-K700
Westing House LTV-32W6

OEM Receiver also controls TV.
OEM TV does not control Receiver.

I know how to switch the Sony Receiver between AW1 and AW2. AW2 lets me use the remotes, including Harmony. AW1 doesn't work with anything. I know AW1 is an alternate IR mode, but there isn't a way (that I know of) to program the Harmony for specific AW modes.

It dives me crazy because I always have to keep turning down the TV volume on the tv.

Yes, there is a way. With the OEM remote in the desired mode (AW1/AW2), do a "Confirm IR commands" (under Device > Settings). It will ask you to send a few commands from the OEM remote, and it will find the alternate IR dataset match.

Hm. I know I can put the receiver in AV1 mode by turning it off, holding the movie button, and then powering up. The display goes between AV1 and AV2, and AV2 is what all the remotes work with.

How do I put the OEM remote into AV2 to match the receiver when it is in AV2?

I have the RM-AAU006 OEM remote that came with the receiver. I can't figure out to put the remote into AV2 mode, but I can switch the receiver.

It seems strange there isnt a way to just control the receiver audio without having to adjust the tv volume also.

It seems that your Westinghouse TV has a poor sense of IR humour. Your Sony Receiver IR Volume commands should not control your Westinghouse TV.

Changing the mode on the Sony OEM remote should be described in your owner's manual unless your OEM remote does not support that feature. The following thread describes the procedure for various Sony OEM remotes, but the procedure for your particular RM-AAU006 remote is not given. However, one of these procedures may work for your OEM remote:
[Link: remotecentral.com]
Other possible options:
1) Buy a different Sony Remote Model that has both modes (AV1, AV2).
2) Ask Support to change your Sony Receiver IR dataset for AV1 mode. It's currently set for AV2 mode.
3) Check the Audio settings on your TV.
Some have "Audio Out": Fixed or Variable - Choose Fixed
Others have "Speaker": Internal, External, Both - Choose External.
On some TVs, when your choose the "External" option, the Audio Out becomes Fixed, and the Volume Control has no effect.
4) Use the digital audio (coax or optical) connection from your TV to your receiver instead of the analog RCA connection.

Well, the Westinghouse has an external speaker setting, but a known issue with this model Westinghouse that that you can set it to internal, but when you turn your tv off and back on again it reverts to internal - so that isn't a solution. That is the only speaker settings.

There is no (that I can find) way to turn the Receiver OEM remote to AV1. I can do it with the receiver, but not the remote. I did try to turn to AV1, use a generic all-in-one I have, and tried the 4 sony codes included in the manual. But - even switched to AV1, and trying all 4 sony codes on the generic universal, the volume STILL controls the TV. So would getting another sony remove even help? I assume these are AV1 control sets for the generic universal I have.

I am not sure how using different cable would help... I mean, even if I change cable, the harmony remote is still going to change my tv internal volume.

It seems I just have a bad-luck setup - which is a shame because I love the new Harmony and it does everything perfect. I hate having to always adjust my tv volume.

CALL SUPPORT and see if they can switch it to AW1 on their end. If the receiver supports it then there's a good chance it's in the harmony database.

I called Logitech. Basically they told me that the harmony will only do what the oem remote does. Since my receiver's oem also control tv volume, that's what the harmony will do.

I tried to explain alternate IR sets and the AV1 mode, but they didn't understand at all, and stuck by the fact that they only support what the oem does.

This isn't clear. Do you mean there's a way to make the TV not use its own speakers?
If so, then it IS a solution. Add the necessary commands to the start of each Activity that uses it, so that after it "reverts" the reversion will immediately be reverted.

The setting to change to external speakers is about 5 levels deep in the tv's menu. That would be a lot of commands. It would be about 10 IR commands, is that even possible to put into the harmony?

It is a bit of a pain that the westinghouse wont remember this setting and reverts to internal every time it turns on, so I am trying to work around that.

Yes it is I have 12 commands added to the start up of my Watch PVR to turn off my TV speakers so I can only use the Speakers connect to my Amp, and another 11 commands added to the leaving of my Watch PVR to turn the speakers back on

How do you do that in the harmony setup software?
