I have a Harmony 880 and I just got a new pre/pro... Integra DCT-9.8. While setting it up, I noticed something very weird... The buttons that i see when I customize buttons in device mode are not the same as the ones i see when I customize buttons in activities mode. I know there are many unused labels when you are in device mode... I'm not talking about those. For example... in device mode there is a button called 'ListeningModeUp' that is "learned" from the database. In activities, it's not there. There is a button in activities called 'DSP+', but it doesn't work. So it's not simply a matter of naming.

The existence of a button in activities called 'PureAudio' might be a clue... Integra Recievers have this button. But on their pre/pro's, the same function is called 'direct'. I think I have the correct buttons in device mode, but in activities I have buttons for a Integra DCR-8.8.

Any thoughts

Every command available in Device mode should also be available in an Activity. Are you sure you're using the same device? Did you update the device after creating the activity? If they're truly out of sync, try deleting and re-adding the activity.

Commands you add to Devices don't get allocated automatically to a button in Activities - it's up to you to choose a button and then allocate the command from the drop-down list.

Just to clarify (because I was confused at first), if they're there in the device list, then they can be used in an activity. (For ex., my Comcast DVR had 9 pages of codes in device mode, and only 3 items in activity mode, until I set up the activity with the buttons that I wanted).

Also don't confuse the label names with the command names. When you are in device mode, the LCD shows only the label names.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I fired off a support email over the weekend to Harmony, and now the device list matches the activities list... However, I think they are still using a set of codes from a Integra Receiver because the 'PureAudio' button is there instead of 'Direct' and a few others seem different... maybe just descrete codes. I'll know more when I get home and test it out.

Just to clairfy the problem I was having...

akirby - I was using the same device, I did update the device after creating the activity... I've been a Harmony user for 8 years, and over that time replaced many devices in my system w/o problem... activities just need updating. Things were out of sync, but it seems like it was on the Harmony side of things.

hhatkin - Yeah... I wasn't expecting them to.

dmlove - There were things in the device list that were not in the activities list... that was the wierd thing. There were also things in the activities list that were not in the device list.

jlet - at first I thought it was just naming confusion... but it was deeper then that.

thanks

Note: When you auto update a device, the old one remains in the device list. Usually, the old device is auto replaced by the new device in all activities. However, some activity types may not update and are still using the old device. This usually occurs with multi-function devices. You should delete the old device. This will also tell you which activities did not update to the new device.

It's the second part that's weird!
Everything in Activities can only have come from one of that Activity's Devices.

Yes, but since he "auto" updated the device, then he might have 2 different versions of the same device (old & new). Then maybe he was looking at the old one in device mode and the new one in activity mode (or vice versa).

Nope... didn't update the device. i added the new one, then deleted the old one. Then had to update all my activities to use the new one with the correct inputs. At first, everything seemed fine. All the standard functions of the new pre/pro worked. Input switching, Vol +/-, menus... all the normal stuff worked just fine. When i went to customize buttons on activities to get to some of the more advanced features, mostly audio related, that I noticed strange things. Like I said in the OP... there was no 'direct' button (bypass all the DSP stuff) but in activities there was a 'pureAudio' button. I added that, assuming someone misnamed it, but it did nothing. Fine, I'll update that button from my remote... but it wasn't in the device to update... weird. OK, I'll create a new one and teach it. But then I started to notice more and more differences.

Most everything is better now, at least there are the same buttons in device and activities... but they are not all correct. I still think they are using a code set from a receiver. There are lots of buttons that don't do anything on my pre/pro. And other buttons that are missing. But that's fine, I can add them. I was mostly concerned about the mismatch between device and activities.

thanks again everyone
