because my wife and I felt we had to give the H1 remote a good hard shake before it would wake up. Other times the remote would seem to work as we thought it was supposed to and just wake up as you picked it up.

Those good hard shakes sometimes took twice to get it to turn on.

Has other people felt this is happening to their remote?

Hello Todd,

Yes, I find I sometimes need to give the Harmony One a "decent" shake, but nothing I'd even remotely call "severe," or even a "hard shake." And other times it comes alive, as you noted, from just picking it up -- my guess is the motion sensor is direction-specific, it seems that it's more sensitive if the remote is rotated rather than picked up horizontally.

I honestly prefer that it isn't overly-sensitive; I have the All-in-One Chameleon remote and it's ridiculously sensitive, walking across the floor while it's sitting on the counter (in my kitchen) turns it on. And battery life for that remote is simply awful, possibly because it turns on so often.

So, the Harmony One operates (for me) just as I like it, and actually exceeds my expectations in almost every respect (notably, I'm disappointed I can't find a way to add icons to the touchscreen, even though the "Help" from the Harmony SW tells me I can, and how to do it -- all incorrect). I've owned SO many universal remotes, some costing more than 2x of the Harmony One, and I'm sticking with this one.

Well I guess I didn't add to my original post that I just returned it and picked up another one. We'll see how it goes with this one. I agree that it is direction specific and here's a test to demonstrate.

Take you remote and hold it by the lower bottom portion down towards the battery cover. Hold it between your thumb and index finger. Hang it upside down so the top of the remote is pointing down towards the floor. Wait for the Harmony backlight to go out and swing the remote around back & forth. You'll notice it doesn't turn on.

Another reason I returned the remote was that my "Ch" button was very dim compared to the other buttons. But the new one backlighting is consistent thru the entire remote.

You can add icons for your favourite channels. As you set them up you get the option to upload them.

I have noticed that you sometimes need to shake it if you pick it straight up, but if you just rotate it a little it wakes up almost every time.

The One should "wake up" both by a light touch of the screen area, and by pressing a hard button - no shaking required!
