I need help programming the "second receiver" on the Denon3805 with the 659. I have been able to set all other functions up and I am overall pleased wth the 659. Logitech customer support is very helpful but their reponse on this topic is; "that although this remote can handle this, they are not permitted to support this functionality through customer support".

What I am looking to do is (1) turn on and off the ssecond amp (2) play either the radio or CD's on the second amp and (3) control volume on the second amp seperate from the main amp. I can do all of this with my Denon remote, but haven't been able to figure out how to program this into the 659.

By "second receiver" on your Denon 3805, do you mean "2nd zone control"? In other words, one physical device but 2 "sets" of control - as if you have 2 receivers in one? If so, add it again and setup its "2nd zone" inputs (Device > More Options > Adjust Inputs). You may have to teach it some "2nd zone" input commands from your original remote. Don't forget to set its power settings to "There are no power buttons". When you create a "2nd zone" activity, always add the main receiver as a passthrough device. Note: Some receivers uses a different set of IR commands for the "2nd zone" control. If that is your case, then go into Device > More Options > Confirm IR language, and use only the "2nd zone" commands from your original remote so that it will pick up the "2nd zone" IR language set.

I have the 3802 along with an 880 and what I did to control Zone 2 was this:

When adding the receiver the 2nd time, put in 3805 and zone 2 in the text box when it asks you for the model number. When I did that for 3802, there was a device in the list that came back with 3802 (Zone 2) in it. It had all of the proper input keys and volume control keys mapped for Zone 2. It brought back Zone 2 for some other devices in the list - I believe 3805 was on of them. Give that a shot and then do as jlet above suggests - make sure you have no power options (so that Zone 2 doesn't try and turn on and off the receiver) and add the main receiver as a pass through device so that it will be turned on when you use the zone 2 activities.

Hope this helps.

Thaanks for you help, but I'm still not all the way where I want to be. I added the receiver a 2nd time followed by "zone 2". I then selected "no power options" for the 2nd receiver; however I could not find the option to make the main receiver setting as a "pass through device". I added an activity "Listen to Radio - 2". When I try the remote activity, here is what happens; (1) if the main reciever is not already on, nothing happens (2) if the main reciever is on, the activity button activiates the sencond receiver, switches to tuner and then powers off the receiver.
Your continued help/advise is appreciated

For all Zone 2 activities, run the activity setup wizard again and when it ask you if these settings are correct, select "Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity". It will go through the setup again, but it will give you the opportunity to add devices like your main receiver. It will add it with function "Passthrough". Your main receiver device needs to participate to all activities (using the receiver) in order to control the receiver powering.

Make sure the reciever is set up to use the "power on" and "power off" discrete codes. If the power is already on... it won't matter that the discrete "power on" is sent... if the power is off... the reciever will turn on. Don't use the "power off" on the second zone, since you don't want the second zone powering off the reciever if you are using the main zone.

My 3803 has discrete power control... and assume the 3805, a newer model does also.

Thanks for all your help (I am making progress, but anot all the way there yet)

I did as you suggested and went modified the Activity to add my main receiver. I did not see the option to "add it with function "Passthrough". Does it do this automatically?
Now when I select the Activty "Play Zone 2 Radio" it properly powers on the main receiver, turns on Zone 2 and plays the Radio (great). However, when I switch to another Activity (like watch T.V.) Zone 2 turns off (I don't want this to happen). What I would like to happen when switching to other Activities is fof Zone 2 to remain on. Having said this, how would I then turn off Zone 2 (I have "no power options" for zone 2 selected)?

A related question is, when I select Activity "Play Zone 2 Radio" and the main receiver is off, the Receiver powers on playing both Zone 1 and Zone 2 activities. I don't necessarily want Zone 1 playing in this scenario and can accomplish this by switching to the Zone 1 Activity and muting (is there a better solution).

You need to figure out how to do this with the OEM remote first, then translate that to the Harmony activities. Sounds like there is interaction between the zone 1 and zone 2 commands that have to be accounted for. The 3 scenarios you need to figure out are: zone 1 only, zone 2 only and zone 1 and 2 together - and how to switch back and forth.
