Hi,

Have now had the new ST768 for just under a week, and have been having problems getting certain devices to use the number keys. Here in the UK we have a text information system transmitted in the unused frames of a TV signal it’s called Teletext. It’s accessed by tapping in a three digit page number. I can use the scroll wheel to enter the numbers so the remote knows it’s learned them, however the number pad doesn’t work. We also have VideoPlus+ (I think you might call it VCRPlus) that allows you to program the video using numbers printed in the TV guides, again I can use the scroll wheel but the numbers don’t work.

One other irritating thing is that the Web setup has no way of telling the remote that a “Watch Video” activity can use the channel up/down on the VCR itself. I’ve set a HiFi Watch TV activity that, because it’s based around the TV wizard allows you to specify which device to use for changing channels. If you use the VCR wizard you get no choice.

Anybody any thoughts?

John

John,
I just received my 768 today, so I'm still learning, but I've found that the hard keys have different functions depending on what menu you have selected. It may be that the number keys are in a navigation mode in the particular menu you have selected.

I would try this:
1) Go to the web site and select 'More Options' from the particular activity you're having trouble with (I assume it's 'Watch Television').
2) On the next page, select 'Change a Button's function...'
3) The next page will allow you to select the menu you want to change the hard buttons for (or select 'Apply to all menus').
4) On the next page, select a number button and press select.
5) Then select the device you are controlling.
6) Then select the appropriate IR command for that number

I've been walking through the menus to get the steps and that's probably about as far as I can go without messing up my own functions. That should probably be very close to the finish though.

As to the VCR question, I had a similar problem with my VCR and I followed steps similar to the above to reprogram the remote to use the VCR channel up and down (among other things).

Hope that helps.

Cheers for the reply. I did consider mapping the number buttons the way you suggest but, it would be much easier if the GUI allowed it. My TV number problem has been resolved by Harmony, they said I hadn't taught the numbers for the TV (I know I did as I tried 3 times to get it to work). They might have looked in their 'back end' database for my profile, but the GUI definately had the numbers set. The VCR problem I've left with them.
What I've done is create two VCR activities, one based around "Watch Videotape" the other on the "Watch TV".
The first provides hard buttons for tape motion fine but the numbers don't work. The second loses the transport buttons but gives me numbers (in both cases the scroll wheel's fine).

A seasons wish to all.

The good guy's at Harmony have perhaps shown me the real benefits of Smart State technology. It doesn't matter how many activities I have based around the TV/VCR/DVD/HiFi SST knows what's switched on or off and just changes the key assignments when switching between activities.
I was trying to turn the 768 into a clone of the 4 remotes I had to use before, forgetting the real beauty of the Harmony INTEGRATION.

Thanks go to Harmony TS who finally showed me the error of my ways.
