Like said above, thanks giving in November is a US thing, here in Canada it is in October, and stores usually put up decorations as they are taking down the Halloween stuff (and some even before that). As to what is acceptable topics for this forum, we can look at three places

none of what was said above goes against Daniel's rules for the forum. (OK for # 2 we would need the full extent of what is covered by the rest of the forums, but you can take my word (or go look for yourself) that there is no Christmas or religion forum on this site)
