I love Oscars. I actually had a bigger - even meaner fish. It was called a Red Devil. This fish was so grumpy! PERPETUALLY! He would eat anything you put into the tank (snails, tad poles, bugs, beta fish, plants, carrots, hermit crabs, pinky mice, frogs) hehe that poor fish - I fed him almost every single animal in the pet store!
If you want a big, pretty, AWESOME fish I'd go with an Oscar, Red Devil or a Green Terror. Oscars are actually the smartest fish... I had a friend who had one and we tought him to roll over and to jump and everything. It was the coolest fish! I don't now if Red Devil's can be trained... but they sure do like to eat and bang their heads aganist the tank. This shouldn't be a problem in your lake however.
