By the way, Doug, one of my friends, the EE mentioned above, had the Garrard Zero-100 turntable, the one with the twin arm that rotated the cartridge shell as the arm traversed the record to maintain zero tracking error. Anybody ever have trouble understanding tracking, or the big deal about tracking error, and would like an explanation? Let me know. Larry www.fineelectricco.com

Larry; Ah yes! Gerrard! They wrote "the Bible" I believe it was titled "the Proper Care of Records" 24 hr vinyl recovery rate, playing "wet", washing, fingerprint & acids contained in its oils... Re: the Garrard Zero-100 was that not one of the tables termed "transcription"? I recall Thorens made one as well? TH/TD-100 or some such? Dougofthenorth

I believe it was the TD-100. Then, there was The AR Turntable, with the floating subchassis and platter that took about eight minutes to stop spinning, and the Beogram, and a turntable I have now, the Technics SL-QL15, which is a linear-tracking unit that is programmable, by 'reading' the flats between songs. Anybody want to bring up old cassette decks? Advent, for instance? Larry www.fineelectricco.com

Nakamichi 1000ZXL... unless, that is, you're going to do a MrKlaatu on me and say North American only. BTW The Clearaudio (Reference), I mentioned in an earlier post, uses a parallel tracking tonearm... [Link: datateam.hu]And one time Technics made a gem of a stylus balance, which has now become something of a collectors item in it's own right. And completely off topic, while I'm here. Does any know of a definitive listing for all the available SACD's? This message was edited by djy on 12/28/01 11:25.08.
