How about a way to get an email notification when replies are made?

Folks, this is a nightmare at the system end. Every time a reply is entered, the system would have to search to see who wants notifications, then send out the emails. Emails bounced back from bad email addresses (there are ALWAYS bad email addresses -- just look at all those AT&T @home users who lost their access this week!) will be a perpetual problem and a glut on the system.

This capability is built into many bbs systems -- the one I'm most familiar with is UBB since I help run a UBB board. The overwhelming advice from UBB operators on the UBB support board is NOT to enable this feature.

That's one reason. Server load. If I was on a faster machine I would be doing a LOT more with the BBS. But as I'm on something slower, I try to keep things running as smoothly and quietly as possible. A new super-fast machine is on the horizon, but not yet.
