Hello, I have a GoVideo portable DVD player with a mini-plug s-video out jack that I would like to use to connect to my television which has a standard 4 pin s-video in jack. DVD player users manual said to use s-video cable with mini-plug adapter(not included)! I have checked local electronics stores for a s-video/3.5 mini plug adapter and all I get is blank looks and apologies. I could connect it analog with RCA connectors but since s-video is there I would like to use it for the added picture quality benefit. Anybody know what I'm talking about?? Thanks in advance.

Could this be something used exclusively by this company? Kind of like Bose's way of component video that was discussed in another thread? I would try contacting the company directly.

I did contact GoVideo and they offered no information other than 'we don't have any'. There are s-video adapters all over the place except for the lonely mini-plug. Just my luck. Maybe another owner of one of these players, GoVideo Off Road DP8240 8.4", will see this and enlighten us.

Did some more looking around and came to the conclusion that nobody makes a cable that will convert s-video to 3.5mm mini-plug. I'm guessing that's why GoVideo support was hesitant to talk about it. I found a review of this player when it first came out and they couldn't test the s-vid for the same reason then. I did find a s-vid/female RCA adapter that I can then attach a male RCA/3.5mm mini plug adapter to finish the connection with a short m/m s-vid cable. Who knows how bastardized the signal will be by then but I gotta try it anyway.

My Fujitsu laptop uses a 3.5mm-to-S-Video cable. You could probably order one from their parts department (assuming it had the same pinout on the 3.5mm side... which could be a big assumption).

I would call GoVideo back and ask them for a make/model number for the adapter.

What model laptop is the Fujitsu? I'll do a search. I've also sent another request for info to GoVideo. Waiting... Thanks

gsmithp,
how about using a 3.5mm to 2 RCA adapter and then connecting a S-Video to RCA" male-to-male adapter? Oops, sorry, this is exactly what you posted above :>(

How about spending $5.00 at radio shack and making your own?

I agree..I already figured out how to do that but I didn't like the idea of 4 plug-in connections in one cable run. Plus the better cables and adapters aren't cheap anymore either. I did find the Fujitsu mini cable on another site for $26...shipped. From Ohio. I don't think I could have made my own for that.

Yup, that looks exactly like the one I have!

Tough things to find, eh? Mine came with the laptop, but I remember discussions on earlier models where people had to hunt to find where to order them.

Kinda gets me though how they can charge $50.00 for 2 connectors and a hunk of wire. Like the Monster DVI 6' cable that costs $99.99, or the no-name brand that costs something like $5 that I saw (yes, I'm serious).

So I don't think that making your own would actually give bad results, but of course S-video is analog and DVI is digital...

Got the adapter FedEx today. Nice, well made piece and it works perfectly! I'm going to hang around and see if I can solve some other issues like getting motivated to learn how to program my touch screen sony remote. I get about 4 pages into it and fall asleep. Thanks to all for your interest and help. Great forum!

Glad to hear it works! Which Sony model do you have?

On the topic of overpriced cables, I love when I find a cable line that charges more for a 6 foot coaxial digital audio cable than a 6 foot composite video cable. So, um, orange ink really costs more then yellow?
