Hello,
Sony actually called me three days ago and requested that they pick up my Sony 530 DVD player so that they could fix the lip sinc problem. They sent out FedEx and gauranteed it to be repaired and returned within 10 days of the pick up date. This is much better service than I expected from Sony when I reported the problem several weeks ago. I will let you know if they "Fix" really works.
Thought you might like to know so that you can call Sony and get yours repaired as well.
Sean
P.S. Still looking for a used PRONTO!!! Hint... Hint...Anyone?....Anyone?....Bueller?

Jason, Return to list, go to the end, search for "lip sync" in the DVD file. You will find all of the lip sync problems posted here. When you finish reviewing a thread, use your "back" button to return to the search results. ("Return to list" loses the search and returns you back to the DVD forum)

As promised, Sony returned my 530 DVD player 10 days after they picked it up. I have watched only a few movies at this point, but no sign of the 'lip sinc' problem....yet. Wether or not they actually did anything is truly yet to be seen. The return invoice listed 'audio sound repaired, unit cleaned' as their "repair", so who knows for sure just what they did. No specifics on the repair were listed and I can't seem to get a real person on their technical support line. I will definately be looking closely for an further problems.

If the manufacturing date is after August 15th 1999 the fix is included. Otherwise you'd need to take it to Sony for the fix (under warranty).

Where is the manufacturing date located? Is it on the box or on the player itself?

Thanks

That's actually a good question -- with my S500D I can't find it on the player OR the box. So, I'd go by the Sony shipment date which is printed on a label on the outside of the box.

SERIAL NUMBERS To AVOID: 0100001 - 0119840
0800001 - 0953000
10001 thru 119840
80001 thru 953000
You can find the serial number on the outside of the box by locating a barcode sticker on the side of the box (usually). At the bottom of the barcode itself will be a number that starts with S01#######. The Number following the S01 will be the serial number on the back of the unit. This is also the bar code label that must be sent in to cliam the 5 free cds. To find a MANF DATE, look on top of the bax, there should be a label with a bar code and a date at the botton like: 11/12/99. This should be the date it was shipped from the warehouse.

The fix is actually a software upgrade. I just had mine replaced by sony. The lastest software (2.40) does not have the lip-sync problem. Sony had my player for 6 weeks before I got my problem resolved. In the end they just gave me a new player.

It pays to call. I sent my 530 in and then called after a week. When I asked about status they said a part was on "national backorder", when I asked how long that would take they said "ETA March 1", before I could say anything they put me on hold and then came back and said they would just send me a new unit. Two days later it arrived Fex Ex. (This was in the middle of Janurary). I couldn't be happier with Sony Service. (Well ... I might have been happier if the problem never occured in the first place).

I sebt my 530 in last Monday. They say it is fixed and on the way back to me but I haven't seen it yet. One week and counting without it. Sony should think about better customer service if they think I'm going to run out and buy that WEGA TV now!
