I have been trying to no avail to get my new Sony Bravia DAV-HDX285 to be controlled by my Comcast DVR remote..Has anyone found any working codes or a reasoning as to why a brand new theater system doesn't seem to be programmable with the Comcast remote? Any other suggestions would be appreciated also(new remotes that work with this setup, etc).

Thank you very much!

Try codes 1658 or 31658.

31658 will control most functions.  The Comcast remote model needs to have a red OK/Select button, however.  If the OK/Select button is grey, you won't get the two blinks when trying to enter the setup code, because it isn't in the remote.  In that case,  try 21903 instead.

After using these setup codes, if you there are functions still not controlled by the remote, tell us which functions, and we can give you individual button codes for those functions.

Hey guys.. I have the Comcast remote with the Red OK/Select button.

I tried all 3 of these codes: 1658 does not do anything at all, 31658/21903 does one long blink and doesn't do anything.

I have never ever had issues with a system (whether it be TV/Speaker system/cable box/etc) not syncing with the Comcast remote. Do either of you have this Sony system or know of a possible reason as to why these wouldn't work?

I really only want to control the volume and power of the Sony system. Most importantly the volume.

Thank you all for any help and all efforts thus far!

Arrgh! My apologies for the bad info.   www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-sony/thread.cgi has the information you need.

Basically, you need to use 31758, and hand enter a 5 digit code for each function.  It's actually pretty quick.

OK.. 31758 blinks twice(it appears) so i lock that code in by hitting setup. The remote won't control the HT at this point.

Now I try to do a volume push. I get two blinks upon pushing AUX the second time. Again the HT does not respond.

Now I try to enter an EFC. I hit AUX, Setup(2 blinks), 994(2 blinks), Setup, 45518(1 blink), Vol+(1 blink)... No response from HT. Is there something I am doing wrong??

I don't know what you mean by "lock that code in by hitting setup" or the later term "volume push".

First assign 31758 to AUX.
1) Press AUX
2) Press and hold Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 31758
The remote should blink twice, which indicates that 31758 was accepted and is now assigned to AUX. No other presses of keys are necessary regarding the setup code.

Next set Volume Punch Through to point at the AUX device, so that Vol+,Vol-, and mute will be routed to the receiver while the remote is in TV or CBL mode.
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Enter 993 (should get 2 blinks)
Press AUX (AUX should blink twice)

Now to assign the volume up function to the Vol+ button:
1) Press AUX
2) Press and hold Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
4) Press Setup
5) Enter 32975 (1 blink for each button pressed)
6) Press Vol+
Should get 2 blinks.

Any subsequent press of Vol+ should cause the receiver volume to go up.

You wouldn't happen to have a similar list of EFC's for a Philips TV would you? I would like to be able to switch which input from the comcast remote. If not, no big deal. Thanks a TON again!

Model number for the Philips?
Sony is fairly easy, because they keep their codes consistent. The EFCs I used are actually from a different model than yours.

Philips uses a variety of codes, so maybe we can find something, but maybe not....

turns out I don't need them, but thanks for the offer.

The very tiny input button below '7' actually does exactly what I want it to do when I am on 'TV'.

Thanks again!

3FG, this post is excellent, I have the same model as Wolfinater. I however have one issue, I went through your excellent steps, and now my volume button on my comcast remote only causes the volume to go up. In trying to fix it, I caused the vol- button to also cause the volume to go up. mute does nothing, am I missing a step? any ideas?

Have you assigned 32975 to Vol+, 31951 to Vol-, and 33743 to Mute?  It sounds like you need to make the latter two assignments.
