The remote for my surround sound system (Boston Acoustics 5000) has a button that toggles between two inputs. This makes macro programming a bit difficult. What's the likelihood that there are discrete codes for two inputs?

There is a device upgrade posted at the JP1 Yahoo group that is for a "One For All" Remote for a Boston Acoustics 7000 that looks like it has input commands for dvd select, audio select, vcr select, and dss select. Assuming the 5000 responds to the same commands and one of the above is what you are looking for then you're probably in luck.

If you know what JP1 and OFA remotes are and have the JP1 interface cable then let me know. If you have a Pronto (or some remote that can use Pronto hex) then I can analyze the above commands and probably create Pronto hex.

If you have some other learning remote, then the only solution will be to buy/borrow an OFA remote, buy/build the interface cable and learn the commands into the remote that you are ultimately trying to program.

OOPS! Not a 5000, but rather a (DigitalTheater) 6000. Slight step down from 7000 - very likely IR codes are compatible. I use a Pocket PC with Pronto/CCF compatible software. If you can translate, that'd be great. (Thanks for the offer!)

I just joined the Yahoo JP1 group - YIKES! There's a lot of info out there! How did you find the Boston 7000 info so quickly? I ask because I also need codes for my old Philips TV (27K241). The remote for it crapped out years ago, and I've never found a preprogrammed remote that had all the fucntions.

Don't have a OFA or JP1 i/f cable, but I can clearly see the benefits of buying one & fab'ing a cable. Do you know which OFA/RadShack model represents the entry level for JP1 plug? If it can be had for $20-30, I'll go buy it today!

Thanks again!

I think the $30 RS 15-2116 is the answer. It does just about everything and is from all reports a very good remote. There may be some 15-2104's left and they are being discontinued and you might save $10 but the biggest usability feature difference is in the program key that can be used as a shift key, doubling your choices. In the 2104 they recessed the program/shift key so it cannot be easily accessed.

The 15-2116 is very close to the 15-1994 that is still sought after and generally acknowledged as the best OFA produced up to the 2116.

It has the JP1 connector already in place so fab the cable and join the fun. BTW, the Philips TV will most likely be setup code TV_0054. I have yet to see anyone who is not pleasantly surprised to blown away by what you can do with a $30 remote.
