I'm sure someone else has thought of this before, but I came up with a work-around for my Hitachi 61SWX10B rear projection HDTV "power on". As almost everyone knows, Hitachi TVs are almost all TOADs. I'm trying to find discrete codes with some help in this forum, but for now, I came up with a work-around, at least for "power on".
The Hitachi RPTVs have a setting in setup that will turn on the TV and set it to the DVD input when it detects a signal from a DVD player. In fact, just turning on the DVD will also turn on the TV if it is off and do nothing to the TV if it is already on. Fortunately, my Panasonic DVD RP91 has discrete on and off codes. So, I have set up my power on macro to first turn off the DVD (in case it is already on) then power on the DVD. The TV will then turn on and set itself to the DVD input. Then you only need to set the TV to the desired input (for watching cable TV, I have it set to Video1, which is a discrete input on my Hitachi).
Now, if I can just find some other discrete codes for power off and other inputs...
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers.
Stan

Stephane
Those are really different from the regular Hitachi TV commands do you know the model number?
They are 11-bit with a 40Khz carrier where all the newer Hitachi's seem to use the NEC protocol (32 bits 38 KHz).
Stan, I can genrate these with an OFA remote but it will take the cable and a device upgrade.

Got my OFA remote (8811) and JP1 cable yesterday. Been reading up on the JP1 sites to learn how to use it. Any help you could give me to get the codes into my OFA would be much appreciated, Jon. I am learning a lot about the JP1 though.

Stan,
Did you try the discrete commands that I posted earlier in this thread?
The ones Stephane posted were quite different so I would like you to try both. The input commands that I posted in this thread should work in most TV's/RPTV's. The discrete Power commands only work in some(~less than 2 year old) RPTV's.
If the power commands I posted don't work, let me know on the JP1 message board since the solution will only work for JP1 remotes with the cable. If you confirm Stephane's codes work I will post back here.

Jon,
I used my OFA and JP1 cable and loaded up the Hitachi codes that were on the Yahoo JP1 files section using IR.exe and the spreadsheets. I then added the EFCs for the discrete power codes you provided. Everything loaded up fine into the remote but the discrete power codes did not work. All the other preloaded Hitachi codes worked fine, but the ones I added and mapped to other keys did not. I'll see if maybe Stephane's might work.

I don't know how to try the codes provided by Stephane. I'll go over to the JP1 forums and ask there since this isn't really the forum for that.
