I did the switch on my STR-DE885 back to the old codes (AV2->AV1) but the IR database in my MX-Editor for my MX-700 didn't have a code set that matched my new remote as far as labels and functions. There were no discrete codes on my remote, so I taught the MX-700 from my Sony remote then I loaded some Sony discretes from the IR database that worked into my Sidekick (hey! a use for that thing!) then taught those to my MX-700. Now I have my MX-700 with the labels and codes that I want and discretes that work. An easier way to do it would have been if I could have picked out individual codes from the IR database and loaded them into my MX-700 from MX-Editor, but I didn't know how to do that at the time.

Edmund, The manual doesn't explain how to set the receiver to AV1 can this even be done on the low end STR-DE185?

I don't know? Did you try Kevin's instructions, found on the other thread? On the 685-985 receivers you can change both receiver and remote. When it gets down to 485, you can only change the receiver. It wouldn't surprise me that the entry level receiver couldn't be changed at all.
