What sort of remote are you trying to program. If it is a Pronto, have you tried the discrete codes posted here for the Power On and Power Off (not the alternates since they are both the power toggle command for the older Panasonic TV's).

If it is some other remote we may be able to help you.

I am trying to program the tv remote - I have tried the discrete codes - the ON one works, however the OFF one also turns the tv off and on! Any ideas? Also, where can I find these discrete codes - just to make sure I have got the correct ones?

Also, I have a Panasonic Sky digital box - are there discrete codes for the power on and off for this?

Thanks
Marc.

Marc,

I just decoded the commands posted in the discrete section and they are the standard On and Off commands for the newer Panasonic TV. The Power toggle command is a different command. That does not mean that what you are seeing is the result of some mistake. Some equipment does seem to have one discrete command and a toggle. This seems more common in Europe. It may be worth one more try to paste the discrete off into your Pronto.

The obvious work-around is a macro where discrete On=On and Discrete Off is On/Power Toggle.

As far as the SkyBox, it does not use the standard Panasonic protocol (or any other of the 20 or so more common IR protocols) and I am not sure exactly what it is but it is bi-phase or Manchester encoded. If it used the Panasonic protocol, I could make a fairly educated guess at the commands.

It seems like most STB's do not have discrete power commands. I happen to have two that do and never turn them off. FWIW, I think the power consumption is minimal and they don't really turn off anyway the little LED goes out but usually they can be communicated with by the provider in any state.

You can use the sky button as discrete on.
off can then be:

Sky button
power toggle.

Have a look at my CCFs

a panasonic sky box works like any sky box sky button on, off button off, this answer begs the question did you really ever look and try before asking for help please forgive me but this seems quite common if ever you wish to do anything have a go first !what the worst that could happen if you do fail then ask .everyone here is dying to help. I know this stuff is hard for first timers but untill you have a go you'll never know (sorry to sound hard but thats how i learned and learing by your OWN mistakes makes it more relevant in my opinion)I'm not saying go away just have a go first then ask i sound really evil now

Can anyone confirm if the 'Power' button of a Sky remote is a true Off, or is it a toggle?

The last 2 posts seem to contradict each other in this respect.
