Does anyone have the 3 digit power on/off codes for panasonic dvd players? Specifically the RP82...I have browsed the site and it seems that 022 is a working power on code, but that the 026 power off code may have some problems....Any Ideas?

I decoded ccf files for the RP-91 and RP-56 with ccf2efc and the PR-91 responds to the standard Panasonic discrete power commands ON = EFC 022 and OFF = EFC 026. The RP-56 uses the same Power Toggle = EFC 024 as the RP-91 and all the other DVD's.
My guess is that you did something wrong in assigning your advanced codes. So for an experiment try it again on a different button. Depending on your model, certain keys cannot be assigned advanced codes (most can).
If nothing works (and I really think it should) you can try the classic work-around. From the DVD being Off, the Play command will also turn the unit ON. So Play / Stop = ON and Play / Power Toggle = OFF.
If I understand in your case, Power On works. Then Power On / Power Toggle should always turn the unit off.
HTH,
Jon

I don't think the problem SoonerDoc is having is with the codes. I think it may actually be with the unit itself. If you do a search in the Pronto forum for RP56 you'll see what I mean. It's the same problem as I've got with my RV31 which is basically the "kid brother" of the RP56. I suppose that this "feature has been carried over into some of the machines from this years crop. Discrete ON - Good Discrete OFF - NFG And to make things worse Panasonic, in their infinite wisdom, had made the machines(RV31 I know for sure) !!!IR blind!!! while their "Welcome to the world of DVD" message scrolls by. So even the known workarounds (Off = Power On / Power Toggle) are less than elegant. I just got rid of my RV31 in favour of something thats a little more remote friendly. I hope that at least the workaround has been fixed as it seems that the discrete problem hasn't.

TomW,
Yes, the RP56 (and apparently all it's close kindred) are blind during the first 4 seconds after the unit is turned on.
This wouldn't normally be a problem if we had a valid discrete off code.
Right now, I have to make do with a lousy macro (discrete on/delay 4.0 secs/toggle power) that takes 4 seconds (which means I have stand like an idiot for ~5 seconds until the system turns off)..
Why oh why can't someone find the discrete function already...

SoonerDoc, I'll have to look when I get home later tonight but I have working codes (both on and off) for my RP82. I'll post them.

Why oh why can't someone find the discrete function already... oferlaor, as I mentioned before, the problem is not with the codes. It is with how the machine's software handles the codes. It appears to me that there is a bug in the software that puts the machine into the 'coma' ... you know what I mean... once the discrete off code is fired at it. I don't foresee finding a useable discrete off code for the RV31 or RP56. Perhaps Panasonic is able to upgrade the firmware somehow??? Though this is no consolation to those who happen to have the Panasonic RV31,RP56 etc. I am positive that the discrete codes posted on this site do function correctly on the RV32 and the RP62. I went to the store with my Pronto and fired the codes at them. Got rid of the RV31 and bought the RP62. No more TOADS for me. TomW.

These work perfectly with my player.

There's only one word (0030 in the off code instead of 0010) difference between these codes. That's really odd.
Can anyone check these on RP56?

The codes as posted are correct for Panasonic DVD's. They are also the same as the codes posted in the Panasonic discrete codes section for DVD's with the exception that there is a slight error (although it will probably work) in the first Power On code at remote central.
These are all Panasonic protocol device 176. On is 62, Off is 63. So there is actually two "words" that are different in the Pronto hex. There is a lead-in 48 bits of data and a lead out. The first 8-bits are always decimal 2, the second 8-bits always decimal 32, the third 8-bits are the device code (decimal 176 for DVD's), fourth-eight bits are sub-device (0) and the fifth eight-bits are command (62=On, 63=Off) and the final eight bits are an XOR of Device, Sub-device and Command.
IMHO the issue here is not whether the commands are correct. Rather that the way certain models work may vary and therefore the one in question apparently does not respond to the discrete commands in a useful way.

Praz,
On my player (RP56), the OFF code has a problem. It turns the unit off. However, when you turn the unit on afterwards, it locks up with the word "Close" on the screen and it is not able to open, close or play anything until you turn it off and on again (the normal way).
However, if you turn on the unit by pressing the Eject button after it has been discretely turned off - the unit wakes up ok.
Still, that's not a good enough solution, I'm afraid. I guess chances are that no perfect discrete codes exist :(

oferlaor,
Does the discrette On command work?
If so have you tried the combination of Discrete On/Power Toggle for Off.

Oferlaor -- My rp-56 does the same thing, tho not on a consistent basis. Says "OFF" but really isn't -- but only sometimes -- other times it really turns off!
Sigh!

Jon,
Discrete on works well (but I've already had that).
Problem is that to turn off the unit, you need to use the discrete on, wait 4 seconds, then toggle power.
That 4 seconds is a problem because if someone doesn't know about it, they'll press the OFF button and then walk away with the remote. I often find the DVD player still on when it shouldn't be...

I have an RP82 (as was specified in the original post). From my Palm using OmniRemote, I used the codes listed for the Pronto on this site. One of the sets worked, don't remember which. I couldn't learn from my Palm to my MX500, so I bought a $15 OFA remote and used advanced codes 22 (on) and 26 (off) within whatever DVD player code set worked. These have worked flawlessly on the RP82 for me.
Good luck, Pete
