I was finally able to get the sharp discrete IR codes for the GA and DA series LCD TV's. Unfortunately, they are in a different formate as the what I am used to. They are the Codes for the 2005-2005 LCD Televisions with the soft start power button. EX LC26DA5.

The format of the codes are as following:

Power On: Hex 11 14a
Power Off: Hex 11 14b

I downloaded MakeHex and some other program but couldn't figure it out. I am used the the hex codes that you can just cut and past in software (Pronto, Sonance IR Manager, RTi, etc). If I recall correctly you use a Scientific calculator, but I cannot remember what to do. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Maybe?

On: 5000 0000 0000 0001 000b 000a
Off: 5000 0000 0000 0001 000b 000b

Thats what I came up with, but it doesn't look like the discrete codes of the past for Sharp. I will give them a try tommorrow.

Thats what I came up with,

How did you BOTH come up with that strange answer?

If you want to use MakeHex, it is Sharp protocol. The device number (the 11 hex) is 17 and the function numbers (the 4a and 4b hex) are 74 and 75. The leading '1' before the function number is typical of the way Sharp documents commands. I'm not sure what it means, but whatever it means is already built into sharp.irp, so you don't need to do anything with it.

The ccf file [Link: remotecentral.com]
has those two discretes in Sharp protocol (matching the numbers you quoted) but also has them in Kaseikyo protocol.

I know some of these devices take some commands in Sharp protocol and other commands in Kaseikyo protocol, but does the same command (discrete On or Off) work in both Sharp protocol and Kaseikyo protocol?

These two Sharp protocol discretes are also in the ccf at [Link: remotecentral.com]
with a bunch of other Sharp protocol commands apparently for the same device. Interestingly only those two power discretes use device number 17. The other commands use device number 1 or 30.

Back to square one...and I didn't pull a Michael Irvin. I tried the discrete codes you pointed me to, JOhn, and the worked for every Sharp TV we have, except for the LC26DA5. The Inputs work for the LC26DA5, but not the power. I tried both sets of codes you pointed me to, with no luck. Any clues, or should I call Sharp and waste another 2 hours.

I cannot think of any other interpretation for that information than the interpretation I already gave you.

I interpreted them that way before doing a search of CCF files. I searched only for what I already thought those Hex values meant and I found only the discrete power commands in those two CCF files.

From the above, I can be quite confident that those Hex values do represent the discrete power commands for the Sharp TV's represented by those CCF files.

Combining that with the rest of what you've told me, I can only deduce that Sharp gave you discrete commands for the wrong model. Good luck in getting better information from them.

It's probably a case of "these work with all our other sets, so here they are". It's possible that customer service doesn't even know those sets need something different (and hopefully they didn't do what Sony does now and again, which is forget to include discretes...)

I called Sharp, and they told me that they should work. They are also going to check into and see if there are discretes for that particular model. I also figured out how to turn the Sharp LCD's on via RS232, which was a problem with last years model. Hit me with an email, and I can forward the directions.

No one at Sharp will return my calls or emails, so I am still on hold. I guess they are trying to figure it out.

Anyone ever get these to work. I did an 32" today and dicrete off managed to work but no on. had to use discrete off - pause - power toggle for on - UGLY!

Yep, that's how you have to make it work. I would give anything for at least a discrete OFF for the 26", but have had no luck. Try these, if you haven't already.

I have had similar problems with this model. I have discrete on and off codes that worked intermittently. I am using Marantz RC9500 remotes and have experienced this on two of these TVs at different installations. I thought I had it licked at one point by issuing the on or off codes twice with a .5 second interval but after 20 minutes this method stopped working completely. I have also noticed that every command that I issue works great from a distance but these power codes only worked when I was within three feet of the sensor on the TV.

The On code that I was using was

0000 006D 0000 0020 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0600 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 0600

The Off code I was using was

0000 006D 0000 0020 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 0043 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0600 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 001D 000A 0043 000A 0600

I hated doing it but I finally put a power toggle on the home page because I had no other alternative. I would like to konw if anyone else has experienced this or if modifying the codes or using other codes will work. All of the other discretes work great. Anyone else tired of Sharp's inability to use a consistent codeset? Maybe they should hire someone from another company that understands that this is important to installers and consumers.

I just programmed a 20" Sharp and a 26" Sharp for the same customer. The 20" was a breeze but the 26" has the power off/power toggle issue discussed here and everywhere else. I tried ALL of the possible codes I could find here but still NO luck.

Does anyone have anything new to add to this.

Thank you,
JR
