The original remote works fine andf I installed new batteries. I have tried to learn the Comcast General Instruments Digital Cable box from the original remote into my PC. Everything appears normal but after programming my Xantech URC2 remote it does not work? I tried different distances and placing the book between.
The cable box looks identical to the Motorola box but those codes don't work either. Any ideas for me?

I'm probably missing some important detail of the relationship between the PC and the Xantech URC2 (since I have no clue what a URC2 is).

What hardware and software did you use for capturing the IR signal on the PC? What form does it store the signal in on the PC? (I might be able to figure out what went wrong by examining the data it stored on the PC for the learned signals).

The Motorola Digital Cable boxes that many of us have from Comcast use the General Instrument's standard remote control protocol. I assume the only thing distinguishing them from G.I cable boxes is the brand name printed on them. So if you have one branded G.I. rather than Motorola, it does seem like it would be the same box. If you have working IR signals for the Motorola, then I surprised (as I assume you were) that those signals don't work.

The GI Remote is already in the Drag-N-Drop database. Works fine. What is the model number of your Cable Box? I've used the same codes for several models of boxes... Al the CFT 2000/2200/2400 as well as the Motorola equivalents... Even the new HD box responds to the same codeset.

Perhaps you have a bad emmiter of placemnt issue.....

Hi Johnsfine

Thanks for the reply.
The URC2 is a universal remote made by Xantech. It comes with software called "Dragon Drop" (Drag and drop). I hace a serial cable from COM1 to the remote. In learn mode I postition the two remotes head to head and learn each command. I can't see the code it just shows a star to confirm that it has learned the code.
If you would like a copy let me know.

There is a second way that I can enter a code which invovles copy and paste of the hex code.

I cannot use the device number (example 015)

Do you know of any way that I could capture codes and see the hex code? I think this would be useful when things just don't work right. What software and hardware would I need?

There is also a feature of this software that allows me to import CCF files but I find this frustrating?
Maybe I should spend a little time in this area to understand it more.

I do have working codes for the Motorola cable box. I was surprised that they didn't work. The Xantech site has a *.pal file for the GI box that I will download and try.

The *.pal files are a collection of all the remote codes for a particular device.

For info the Xantech site is www.xantech.com
The remote software is the "450URC" or something close to that.

Regards
John

Hi Impaqt

Thanks for your info.
I looked up on the Xantech site for the GI file and found gicoxcbl.pal but when I try to download it the download page doesn't load.
Do you have a copy of that file?
