Do yourself a favor and look into Sherbourn. They only have 1 preamp but it is built by license from Sunfire and has the same layout. Yes it is disrete.

The amps are rock solid and sound great. A good deal for your clients and for you. I second Fred on the high recommendations for Ron Fone. The ability to deal so personally with a manufacturer has great benefits. I wouldn't change to anything else unless Ron dropped me!

PS. He doesn't ask for pie in the sky numbers... just a chance to business with good integrators.

Rotel is direct only. Great gear. I think the requirements are $15k a year. If you could swing it, I would definetly recommend trying to get it.

I have to second the Sherbourn (again). Their amps are awesome and provide a ton of solutions for custom guys. Whatever you choose, make sure it is a company who supports the custom installer. Too many installers recommend and use brands that would just as soon take a crap on you as sell you product.

This is for the local custom install division
of my company ONLY - not my Pro Remotes website.

Parasound & Audio Control sound good. I'll check
out Sherbourn too.
What about Rotel?...

Direct only, and tight distribution
Krell?...

Direct only, and tight distribution
Sunfire?...

Direct and possibly rep distribution (market dependant)
Lexicon?

Direct only, and tight distribution.

What about just calling the reps??
Even if you wind up going in another direction, it never hurts to get on their radar anyway....

As for a recommendation, that really depends on your market.
Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Integra are all big players who will have the new features when they are still new!!!
(state-of-the-art video switching, transcoding/upconversion, AutoEq, the latest DTS, THX, DD soundfield modes, etc.)
You can also count on each of these manufacturers to offer decent control at their higher models, trickling well down into the lower priced models depending on the manufacturer.

Each has it's own strengths... but they are all competent
Pick one that is not really oversold to the people who represent your main competition.

NAD, Rotel and basically every other company in the arena formerly known as "mid-fi" will be hit and miss for timely features, but usually promise tighter distribution, and the build quality can be better dollar for dollar if you look past the feature list.

Adcom is basically gone... unless somenone resurrected the name, again.

One more for Parasound. Their Zcustom series half rack units have solved a lot of problems for me (45 real watts 8 ohms, 60 watts 4 ohms) per channel, 1U high, half rack $300 MSRP
