I'm looking to pick up some mid-to-high-end brands of preamps or receivers for home theater use. Which ones have you had most success with? Also, I prefer to go with brands that have low or no purchase minimums (distribution).

A couple of my considerations are Sunfire & Adcom. What else should I be considering?

Thank you,
Damon DG

Sherbourn? I've never heard of them until now. Anyone else have experience with them?

Integra/ Anthem. This is for a retail store not online right? If you plan to sell online your list will become much shorter.

I'll second Sherbourn (www.sherbourn.com). Good stuff, great pricing, and Ron Fone is a hell of a guy...class act all the way.

I wouldn't touch Sherwood Newcastle with a 10' pole. I just replaced a customer's DVD player that they've had for all of a year (that they use seldom, as it's a beachhouse). Opened it up to retrieve the disc that was stuck inside, and the thing looks like it cost about $8 to make.

Just my $.02 worth.

Discretes?

This is for the local custom install division of my company ONLY - not my Pro Remotes website.

Parasound & Audio Control sound good. I'll check out Sherbourn too. What about Rotel...Krell...Sunfire...Lexicon?

Thank you,
Damon DG

I can't speak on the others but, the Lexicon (fantastic gear) does have a healthy annual requirement. It can be supplemented with speaker purchases though. Revel is the speaker line. Both are part of Harman Group. Rock solid engineering. 3 price points to cover in the speaker lineup. It's been a while since I flirted with these guys so the info may not be 100%.

Thanks Anthony! I appreciate your post. I'll probably call them just to get an idea of their requirements.

I think Sunfire went back to direct like 2years back. I t was odd its like distro had it then they didn't... Then I asked Sunfire and they said they wanted better control of the line and were direct. Then it got to be too many headaches and I stopped looking. Info could be wildly out of date.

They are at least in my area.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

The following is only my opinion. In no way should this opinion be taken as anything other than my opinion. I apologize in advance to the Manufacturer in question.

Adcom? RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
