I'm installing a large system in a 50,000 Sq. Ft. estate. We've gone over the Client's intended budget of 2 Mil and he's asking us to shave things down some. Can anyone tell me if there will be much of a difference if we go with the cheaper compression BNC connectors that most people seem to be using versus our standard Canare BNCs? This is a long distance job and I'm also considering cutting per diem expenses by switching to Dunkin Donuts coffee for the crew each day instead of Starbucks. Will the caffeine buzz be as good?

How much are you trying to shave from the budget? A line I've always used is "Sure, Mr. Customer, I'll be happy to substitute lower-quality parts in your job to save you some money."

That usually gets the dialog going, and in the end, they realize that the little bit they are trying to save isn't worth it in the grand scheme of things.

I mean, how much can you possibly save by switching to cheaper BNC connectors? Also, if you are looking for good budget coffee, Bengal Trader in your local BP gas station isn't bad...and you get a free cheese danish on Mondays!

Just my $.02 worth.

I normally build a crew from a temp labor company instead of using my own crews when I need to bring down the price a bit.

That's an excellent idea. But I think I will hang out at a Home Depot and hire some of those guys that hang out in the parking lot. That should be even cheaper.

Show the client some video footage of the space shuttle exploding to show him what happens when you substitute something with something "cheaper".

I have a question to everyone in the U.S. (slight hi-jack here but Dunkin Donuts was in the original post). I live in Melbourne Australia and a Krispy Kreme donughts is opening near me soon with great fanfare and the like. This is the second store over here i think. Are thier doughnuts any good or what? I ask because we hear the name mentioned in movies and TV shows but no-one has tasted one over here to ask and frankly Starbucks coffee sucks compared to what you can buy in any cafe here, but IT opened with a lot of hoopla as well?

Sorry about the hi-jack.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

Ya, I'm not very happy about you hijacking this all important thread ;-).

Krispy Kreme is one of those cult things. The donuts are good and certainly much better than Dunkin Donuts. Are they "all that"? I guess it depends on how serious you are about donuts. To me it's a good donut but I get excited about other things ;-).

They're doing poorly over here. They opened one around the corner from me (also with great fanfare - that's how they do it) and it only lasted about a year. Now it's standing there right up on the main drag empty and derelict.

Hope they do better down under.

Try the Caramel Cream Crunch if they have it. OMG.

My productivity would drop if I quit the Starbucks habit. Four shot latte with a large bore IV needle on the side, to go, every morning.

We prefer the Dutch Bros coffee for the caffiene content. Get the coffee strong enough and doughnuts from the grocery store taste just fine....

Krispy Kreme opened with great fanfare around here too, cars lined up for days. It was riduculuos. They are okay when warm, would I go out of my way for one. Nope. My ex-girlfriend used to drive some 30 mile away to get those freakin things when they first came to So. Cal.

As for the matter at hand:

How about zip cord or romex for the speaker wire, then you could have sparky do it and save some serious money. And he could loop cat 3 for internet, no need to waste wire home running it all back to a hub.
