I don't like anything for fax and purposely don't put the number on anything any more. It's my way of helping people and manufacturers that haven't heard of E-mail enter the 21st century ;-). Seriously, why the hell does anyone, ESPECIALLY manufacturers still use fax?! I refuse to help them stay in the 20th century by paying for a fax service, I stick with WinFax. OK, rant aside, Efax, InterFax, TrustFax, ard three options. Man I could not agree with this more. Fax is such an antiquated concept. I recently moved my office and it took me a while to get the fax machine (actually Win Fax on my PC - not an actual "fax machine" - haven't used one of those in 10 years) set up. In the interim, I put more pressure on my suppliers to accept PO's via email (I was already emailing PO's via email before, but not to the extint I am now. Since I have set up my fax, I have not used it once, and probably won't. I even canecelled my dedicacted fax line (actaully a distictive ring line). If they can't accept it via email, I say "feed 'em frogs" (that's slang for "f" 'em.)

We still do everything by fax, but I think it's just because of the big, hungry PO book that wants to be fed.

The reason why I asked is that we use the fax so infrequently that it doesn't work right when we do need it (because of the light dust built up it won't feed). A couple of days ago we had a real estate guy fax us about 25 pages that we needed sign and fax back that morning. took about 2 hours to goof with the whole deal. what a pain.
We advertised it a couple times 5 years ago and we ended up with all kinds of garbage 24/7 so we just unplugged it.
99% of our correspondance is through phone call or email.

After getting about 10 feet of junk faxes per week, we signed up for eFax. Like Ernie said, the free service is a non local area code, but that's no big deal.
No junk faxes, period.
We went over the limit at one point and pay the yearly fee now. However, I think it's still worth it.
I like being able to view a fax on my PC and delete it if it's just ads from my supplier. I can print it out if I need to.
Get yourself a free number, Steve and try it out. I think you will find it worthwhile.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

When I had the service (Efax, which then somehow was changed to jfax), it was great. The one time every three or so months that I needed to receive a fax, it was free.
Then, around 2010, the total quantity of junk ad faxes that I got totalled fifteen in one month and I was faced with either killing the fax number that was printed on my business cards, or paying fifteen dollars a month for the privilege of receiving junk mail. I chose to pay. In retrospect, it was a total waste. I mean, I was partying like it was 1999.*
Printers that can send faxes are available. I have one. I've sent one fax during the last 18 months. I've not suffered from lack of ability to receive a fax.
(It's odd to have comments made to one's post from fourteen years ago!)
*Somewhere in my collection of 78 rpm jazz records I have one where the pianist yells out "Play it till 1951!"
