I have to say that this is pretty bold...
I don't know if consumers will "get it", but then again this is an ad in a trade mag geared toward dealers and installers. THEY will get it!!

I like it, but I am twisted like that.

Sorry, I must be crossing company names.
I remember where I went now.
Will you be at the EHExpo next week?

Yep, probably all days. We are located in Orlando, so not a big deal to get there for us. Gonna take some classes here and there, too.

My first thought was that it was referring to
things that boys do that make them go blind,

You think little boys go in the closet or under the bed to do that?? Pretty much when a teenage boy is behind the locked door in the bathroom and says he's washing his face or brushing his teeth, he's running the faucet and doing that instead.

My parents were so proud at how seriously I took my personal hygiene during my teenage years... I was always "brushing my teeth" or "washing my face"!!

there's a girl in the picture, and they don't
do that...

Yeah, right...

2nd rick....TOO MUCH INFORMATION.

Brent - great add, although I'm not sure about the "grow up" phrase either.
a lot of people won't get the ad but who cares. you can't please everyone.

How is Home Theater Magazine geared towards dealers and installers? It's geared heavily towards consumers and to boot it's geared much more towards "lifestyle purchasers" who will not get it as opposed to Stereophile types who are often more hobbyists types.

Remember guys, just as DIY types often don't realize how frustrated many people are with technology and need it to be simple, let's not forget that plenty of consumers don't know Monster Cable from Adam. Obviously that's fine, insofar as this ad is targeting only those who do, but plenty more may have heard of Monster Cable but it won't be dominant on the mind because they don't work in this industry day in and day out. In other words, a little clue might help them to better "get it".

I just read an interesting statistic from Microsoft. Do you know how many people that use Outllook use the tasks section? 2%!!! My point being that I'd have never guessed such an insanely low number. Similarly, while we all laugh at this ad I'll bet that less than 10% of the people that see this ad will have a clue what it's saying.

This is sort of fun to discuss and I sure hope you don't take my input negatively Brett. Another thing for me that didn't click at first and still doesn't is why is she reaching under the bed? Am I not getting something I am supposed to? My point is that as a kid when you were afraid of monsters the last think I ever did was go near the edge of that bed, let alone reach under it. Is she reaching under it to see if the monster will bite her hand :-)? Seriously, it doesn't make sense. Am I missing something?

On the other hand if she were cowering under her sheets looking scared while peering over the top edge of the bed or something it might be more obvious.

And here's another problem. We are all used to double entrandes in ads. The first moment I looked at the ad and read "not under your bed" "not in your closet" and "certainly not in your home theater" I immediately thought it was trying to make some cute reference to something regarding sex. I guarantee that's the first thought tons of people will have. The fact that the girl was young rather than some sexy model made me realize it was Not about that but it still took me a few more seconds to get it.

QQQ, go back to my earlier post. I was thinking sex (but then that's me). No I would have never understood the ad if not for this discussion--well, I would have but I would have lost patience trying.

The good news for Brent is that these discussions are bound to crop up everywhere, and there's no better press than that. Way to go!

It is all about overcoming fear.
She is checking under the bed to prove to herselve that there is no boogie man.
THe idea is that you do not have to be afraid of making the HiFi connection.
The vast majority of my cables are sold thru the "CI" conduit and the print ad is there to provide credence to the "CI" who recommends my product.
I am thinking about smoke & mirrors for the next campaign.

Sorry, I guess I associated it with CE Pro because I kept seeing Julie posting on the thread...

I just read an interesting statistic from Microsoft.

I just checked my e-mail in Outlook, and had to double check what "tasks" was.
I still use a planner. For me, it's too hard to make notes on Outlook in the car. (I am not into PDAs or PDA/phones)
