Now why would they worry about lawsuits? I didn't know that Gremlin Audio as litigious...

Did I meet you at your store a couple of weeks ago?
I talked with a man at the counter, a young lady and I think an installer.

Do you happen to have a reduced connecter size version of that cable for those annoying Creative Labs sound cards that jam the 1/8" jacks close together on the back of the card?

After I laughed at the ad, I saw the pictured cable and that's the first thought that came to mind... you can tell where MY mind is... :-P

Nope. No storefront. We work out of an office.

love the ad.

it refers to monsters under your bed or gremlins...... or ghosts in the machine for that matter.....

for the record i read no posts before i looked at the ad.....
my initial thought was thats cool.... referes to using good cables to eliminate the ghosts or monster that can ruin your system or create problems.

at no time did i think about monster cable or anything else

it was after reading the posts that i put monster and MONSTER together....

my c cents

That is AWESOME!

I love how it says one particular word, and says it without saying it or even getting close to it!

Beyond that, the image truly brings to mind that people are afraid of connecting things. I always have to tell clients that they can't mess up their systems with their integrated remotes, and their original remotes still work once I have programmed, say, a T2+...so obviously they are working in the dark (fears abound) and afraid of... imps of some sort around every corner.

I have heard of trompe l'oeil (fools the eye), artwork that is not what it appears to be. This is one better -- trompe le cerveau, (fools the brain), screaming something that is not actually anywhere on the page.

Bravo!

My first thought was that it was referring to things that boys do that make them go blind, but there's a girl in the picture, and they don't do that...

I am too dumb by half. I did not get the add so I am happy someone who did get it was kind enought to translate it for me.

I am still too supid by half but at least I now know why.

The ad is brilliant but I suspect it is not so brilliant insofar as 99% of the consumers seeing it will not get it. And having a consumer be confused by an ad may not be a good thing. I always find it irritating myself when I see an add and have no clue what it's trying to tell me. Still, it will probably create some talk in the industry. My 2 cents as a non-advertising expert.

p.s. I had to stare at it for a minute before I got it and I do this every day. Had this thread not wanred me it was supposed to be funny and I'd jusy been paging through the magazine I'm not sure I'd have looked at it long enough to even get it. Seems to me the ad is "too smart". Brent, what if you changed the tag line slightly and showed the outline of a monster under the bed so that a LOT more people will get it and you'll still have a funny ad?

And what in the world is up with the tag line "grow up". What in the heck does that have to do with buying cables and if I were a consumer why would I want to be told to "grow up" by a cable compnay (ya, I get the tie-in to the ad but I think it's a REALLY bad tag line). Sorry to be hyper critical but just giving my input.
