2nd Rick,
I familiar with RTI but not the removal or modification of the carrier.

Could you elaborate? Email if you need to.
I'll let you know tomorrow..

On the topic of "plug in" IR emitters ... where do you folks source your 1/8" IR & 12v trigger cable?

2nd Rick,

I familiar with RTI but not the removal or modification
of the carrier.

Could you elaborate? Email if you need to.

Try this...
1) Go into the IR Library Manager, open the command set that you know works with your device (tested using the remote in Standalone mode, or with an emitter, blasting through the front receiver of the component)

2) Click "add" in the Edit tab view to place additional commands into the file, duplicate the commands that you need with a "no carrier" or some other indicator behind the command name. Chan up (no carrier), Chan down (no carrier), etc. This way you know to select the appropriate one when you are assigning commands to a button or building a macro.

3) Open the ORIGINAL command, and go to Hex tab view, copy the data, go to the Hex tab view in the new command and paste in the data. (Crtl+C, and Ctrl+V will work in RTI software)

4) While you have the new command open, return to the Edit tab and then go up and double-click the carrier frequency and hit delete, then enter. This should save it as 0.0Khz.

5) Go back and select this new command and see if it works...

6) Report the good/bad news back to RC!!

Does anybody know if the IR port on the back of moto cbl stb's are an input or output or anything at all? The manual does not even mention the connection. Erik
Life is short, enjoy yourself!

I make them with 1/8" mono connectors that I buy from parts express and some 22/2 and a good ol' soldering iron. I use shielded 22/2 with a drain but that is only because I had a roll of it sitting around when I started doing this and I liked the way it held it's shape more because of strands for the drain so now I keep using it.

The connector I use:

The wire:

I only use parts express because they are close to me and so it's fairly easy to just stop by and pick up the connectors and cable. I haven't taken the time to search for another supplier.

Ah, the soldering approach ... alas, my soldering iron skillz are far from decent, so I try to avoid this unless absolutely necessary.

I see you use a mono plug, btw - I know this'll work for 12v trigger, will it also work for IR? Or do those require a stereo/3cond plug?

All IR jacks I have ever worked with have been 1/8inch mono, allthough I hear that stereo jacks do exist.

Niles has all three - 1/8" mini to bare wire, 1/8" mini to 1/8" mini, and emitters with 1/8" mini. Can't find the first two on the website, but I know they make them. Can't imagine having the time to solder those ends on... Must be nice.

It's all billable time as part of the project. They don't take that long with a third hand from Radio Shack and a small soldering iron. :-) Of course, I don't need the magnifying glass (yet).

In my car audio days I soldered all of our RCA cables and everything else so I've had plenty of practice. A couple minutes and I've got them all finished.

Soldering for IR jumpers?? That's dedication!!

Elan has the IRIC 2M male-to-male mono IR cable, and the IRXC 5M male-to-female mono IR cable extender.

And then there's the Xantech cable with male-to-tinned leads which can be jumpered to cat-5 for long runs.

Like the rack thread on IP, the less extra wire you have to hide the better.

I do have some of those Elan pieces like those mentioned above from SpeakerCraft too, but they've been collecting dust.
