You should be looking at corrosion issues. I have installed audio systems for two large leisure centers in our area over the past decade and am intimately familiar with the problems associated with these environments. The second job we did started having problems after about three years. The system is 70 volt ( about 1200 watts total powered by 5 Crown Com tech amplifiers), multizone discrete paging , and delayed distributed speakers) I ended up re designing the system on behalf of the city, and based on what we learned, we have provided a much more resiliant solution that will better survive the environment. Cuastic gases such as chlorine, as well as corrosive vapors destroy just about everything in these places including stainless steel fixtures that don't have the correct metalurgic composition. EMT conduit only lasts for about five or six years without deteriroating. I'ts a harsh environment. Anything that is failing at the moment is probably beyond repair. The place to look for your problems will be "connections that are oxidized", and PC boards in electronic components, or speaker components that have failed due to the environment. Only extremely well protected speaker components will survive these places for long periods of time.

I could not agree more. I work in a very harsh environment. I use this stuff

[Link: ebusiness.ilsco.com]

on every screw, bolt, light bulb, speaker wire, that is mounted on the outside. I load up the spring clips/binding posts for the speakers so they stay together over time. I have gone back on jobs we did 30 years ago and can still get the light bulb out of the back door fixture that has never been changed. I would highly suggest a bottle for a project like this. You'll be amazed at what a small amount can do for the mounting hardware when you go to service the stuff 5 years later. My 2 cents

editted: By the way. This stuff is clear and tinted green. You can wipe the excess on your pants and not even see it. DONT USE THE BLACK STUFF. Its messy as hell.

Thanks guys. I don't think that the owner is going
to even consider new speakers.

I don't get the Mr. Stanley joke.. Sorry....

Uh, he probably thought he was reading another one of my painfully long boring posts about a another cluster f*&k of a job!!!

Hi guys. Where to start. I looked at a job today
at a water park that has some problems. The park
used to have a 70v audio system. Last summer they
installed an 8 ohm system. Problem is, there 12
channel amp keeps blowing. It will run for about
3 hours, then shut down. This is why I was called.

THEY installed it? It's probably not totally related to the blown horn... They probably wired it really funky (shorts), bad terminations, and who knows if they wired things in series, series paralell or whatever. Sounds like a total re-wire job...
Can you check to see what the amps are seeing for impedance?
Figure in plenty of time to look things over first...
70 volt is probably the ticket, like the other guys are suggesting.

Hey Instalz
Just a thought... Sometimes DIY's hook volume controls up in reverse!!! You'll still get audio through the speakers, but the Amps are seeing some pretty nasty stuff... Not to mention the volume controls can actually catch fire (if the amp doesn't first)... so IF there are VC's, you might yank all of them out and double check!!!

Mr. Stanley, there are no volume controls in there current set up. I actually submitted the proposal today.
8 pair of JBL Control 28T's, a Crown CH2 amp, and a couple of Atlas AT 100 v/c's. I want to thank everyone for the input & help. You guys are awesome...
Found out today that the old 70v system that they had was installed in the mid 80's and the horns were JBL. So when I quoted the JBL's to replace the proficient audio speakers, the customer new it was a good product...
