23 or 24 an hour in a moderately expensive housing market is acceptable I guess, for a guy who can wire racks, install anything... technically astute.

If you want a guy to start doing a little PM on top of that, communicating with clients, architects, site supers and such, that's a little light.

Guys who can run jobs, do a little PM, and field engineer here and there, should command some serious wages.

Mr S, it sounds like your Champion was paid very well, but he did get a little drunk with his own power.

In our market, we're paying a little better... high 20's an hour for stud techs, and low 30's for guys who run jobs and do a little PM on top of that. We pay really well for entry level since the job market here is extremely tight.

I think that's respectable money

The turtle comment was clearly a Freudian reference with a tad of Jungian philosophy thrown in. I got it Larry. Brilliant . Don't try to explain it to these Neanderthals. There too busy thinking about MILFS and WILFS. They are not refined men of the world like us.

I think it was quite a raise. Seems to me you'd calculate it based on what it would cost to maintain a similar car yourself including the cost of purchase (using a monthly payment as the guide) insurance and maintenance.

BigPapPa..

Yep, that IS good money, really...
Yeah, you guys must have a pretty high cost of living on the Island... The housing market here.. is now second to SanFran... totally nutz... so most of us here are what the press are referring to as the working poor... Guys whose rent or housing represents 50 to 60 or more of their monthly income... really sucks... A beater 2 bedroom house... in town = $1600 month (if you can find one)! A beater house with a 1 hour commute =$1350 or so...2 bed Apt. $1,000 to $1200 or so... Being in Microsofts back yard has really affected this... Uh, thanks Bill! The MEDIAN house price here is now $399,000 & going up 10 to 20% annually... How could we outsource installs to India???? (Hey maybe programming)...??? AMX for $1.20 hour!!!!
The guy who we had as our tech stud... was also supposed to be the sales stud... & did PM but couldn't do the sales stuff very well, and didn't have time!!!
I think the boss would be willing to pay a really talented dude fairly close to that... but no sales and little PM. A lot of these guys are out there doing their own thing...
We do sub out our AMX programming, although the owner is also learning that portion...
But I know we are willing to pay around 20% more than the local high-rollers... It's just a btich trying to find people... And unless they come to you... you kind of don't want to beg people to work for you!
I really do appreciate your help though...
Aloha & Thanks, man...

Hmmm depends on the car of course... and I wonder if the company is insuring it? How about gas /maint?
A few years ago I was bitchin' about a raise... then one day a new Volvo Wagon pulled up to my house... HEY! here ya go dude!!! My boss climbs out holding up the keys!!! Gas/Ins/Maint. It was quite a shock... I had been driving a rusted-out MGBGT for 14 years... I think they were a little concerned about what the customers would think when I pulled up in that old oil burning rust bucket!!!
P.S. make sure he tosses out his empty beer cans in the company car... (long story)... For some reason owners don't have a sense of humor about old Bud cans rolling around on the floorboards!

Could be $450 + pretty easily... plus he's not paying tabs or taxes on it?? Hell, I'd take a company HUGO at this point!!!

So that's about 2.50/hour after taxes or about 3.50 before?

That's about what I told him...
