I spent most of my time at the start of my career in attics. Attic work requires two Techs. one tech in the attic and the other at the location of the wire drop.

Most walls are capped off at the top with wood or medal.
Have one guy feed a glo rod up the hole you cut out and have him tap the glo rod at the top, one tap at a time and the guy in the atic will be able to locate your drop point that way. then drill your hole and that should solve that issue. sometimes its easy but of course most of the time its a pain but thats A/V. I found the cheap glo rods work better than my costly fish rods. every tech has their own way. whatever you find makes your project move quicker thats the way to do it. good luck.

I'm wondering why anyone would cut a hole in a wall without first establishing what was insidethe wall where they were thinking of cutting that particular hole...

Measuring and drilling a nice "inspection" hole from above, or below, into the wall first makes the most sense. No?

So what do you do if there's some nice $500.00 per roll wallpaper on the wall? Just cut a hole and hope for the best?
