After you cut the hole where the wire is gonna
drop its always time consuming to find the exact
spot in the attic to line up with that space.
What tool or technique do you use to find your
drop point in the attic???

I also use the small stiff wire and pop it through the ceiling drywall until it can be seen in the attic, then go back and fill the hole with spackle... Sometimes drilling a small hole and jamming a glow rod up there works well also. Don't forget to have a little thing of spackle in your tool kit... (I hate sneeking in and using the customer's toothpaste, if I'm out of spackle)!!!

Only advice there is to not use the blue stuff.

Unless the ceiling is blue, of course.

I think this is a great subject. I am a 2 holer but I love to hear new ideas. I have come up with a lot of these on my own but every house is different and all ideas have some merit.

Here is another two holer for you.....

I was drilling up through the top plate from below.... I couldn't drill it down from the attic because even though it was an interior wall, it was very close to the exterior wall, hardly any slope on this part of the roof, I couldn't get it from the attic....

I cut a hole in the sheetrock just below the crown molding, drilled my hole, pushed the glow rod up. My partner couldn't see it.

When I pulled the glow rod back, it was NUCLEAR! I knew it had been energized by the sun.... I pushed it back up, walked outside to take a look, yep.

Two holer, top plate and roof!

Necessity is the mother of invention...

I had drilled a hole in a cross brace once and couldn't quite get all of the necessary wires through... didn't have a larger bit that was 4 feet long... was miles and miles away... didn't want to come back and patch... didn't have my wire lube. I went into the fridge, grabbed the margarine, went back to the attic and rubbed the snot out of my wires... came back down and successfully yanked the wire nest through. Crisco works too but you hope the nice foodlike smell doesn't attract rodents!

I've been going to Home Depot for years and buying boxes of the insulation stuff wires from Simpson. They are already cut to 16 or 24"... have nice sharp ends and you get 100 for like 4 bucks. We use them for crawl and attic finders and you can also bend the ends when the wire you fished is stuck behind insulation at the back of the stud bay... they make good little grabbers.

Stanley... I too am guilty of the alternate toothpaste use. Luckily I'm a patch wizard. I got good at it in college because the skill was good for fixing holes that the rugby players put into your walls with their heads when you threw parties... cheaper than losing your damage deposit every time.

Yeah, start using it every day and you will make more sales!
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
