Before I write off the loss of this cable, does anyone know of a company that can re-terminate an HDMI cable.. And yes it does suck!
I'll let you know tomorrow..

Did it happen right at the end or in the cable?

I do not know where you can even buy a unterminated end. Yes, you are right ,HDMI does suck from an installer's perspective.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Yes.. A 50' to about a 47' and I am not looking for a DYI solution.. I was thinking, based upon cost and availability, of sending it in from repair. I called the manufacture and they are unaware of anyone in the US that does this.. Just asking before I toss it.

Call Extron, I know they do custom DVI and HDMI cables, whether they could reterminate your particular cable or they only do customs on their own stuff I don't know.

Is it in conduit? Can you yank it out ans ship it? There is a place in Redmond WA. -- Redmond Cables...

That's a scary thought... I usually always try to run these in smurf if possible... But, I'll admit not always possible, 'specially in a retro...

Aren't all these new connectors a BITCH? Scart, HDMI, VGA etc.. Damn computer guys have to come into the industry and screw things up for us CI guys...

Are you sure that it is the cable and not a signal loss or HDCP issues (been there, seen that).
Termination is done with robotics and is specfic to cable and terminal.
If it is the cable did you test before you did the install, it is possible that even someone stepping on the cable can take it out.
We have developed an HDMI continuity testor. With this you can test all 9 circuits for continuity (NOT FOR ACTUAL SIGNAL INTEGRETY).
It is recommended that you test prior to instal after you pull and before gear hook up (it is nice to know that it is NOT the cable).

Also realise that it is virtually impossible to custom lengh HDMI cables and have them certified (as each lenght, cable and terminal combination most be tested for certification).

All,
The cable was cut during trim in and yes it will be yanked out if it can be re-terminated.. Thanks for the lead Mr Stanley.

Brent, I am glad you responded. I have always been impressed with your depth of knowledge on HDMI. I have 3’ section and a 47’ section. I am hoping to salvage the 47’ section. Do you have any recommendations on re-termination?

By the way, did any read the article on 1394 HANA in CE Pro this month. I hope it becomes a reality.

I am sorry to the best of my knowledge there is no one who can reterminate the cable.
However, I would recommend that you keep at least the 3' section to show your cust. how an HDMI cable is made and why they should buy a better cable and spend the money to have it installed in conduit.
Talking with installing dealers I am starting to hear horror stories about HVAC, Security and Electricians damaging the cables by steping on them or streching them, as well as problems where cables are pulled thru the rafters and get pinched in the joints. Just as serious is doing hard bends as the cable comes out of the wall.
It is very important to understand that "ANY" deformation to the cable will render it useless.
Get a "CL" rated cable with a smooth & stiff jacket if you are not putting it in conduit.
If you are going further than 15 meters, spec in a signal repeater (get one that is HDMI certified). Plan on a soft bend going into/out of the wall.
