Anyone with any constructive experience with this line of speakers? I have a distributor putting on a sales seminar/training session and was wondering if it would be worth looking at these speakers.

Also, some input on how do they compare to other brands/models would be helpful.

I quickly looked at their HT design documentation and it seems to be a well designed line of speakers.

Incredible speakers. We are a dealer for them. Every speaker they make is an active design, every driver with it's own amp designed specifically for that driver. Very efficient, very loud, and they sound fantastic. Their HT line is basically the same as their commercial line, which are used in recording studios around the world.

Take a listen, you'll be surprised how good they sound.

I try to only use Genelec. 70% of my spec use Genelec in the quote. If you have a budget to meet that include Genelec, consider yourself lucky. You have the choice of using RCA connector or XLR connector. Make sure to rough in for 120vac as each speaker has it's own amp. Which makes for a great look when you use the right Digital Audio Processor.

My favorite company and products to deal with. You'll find Genelecs in a lot of the "World Class" residential Home THeaters... Plus now they are adressing the real-world with some affordable systems. Made in Finland... Not China!

I've installed one system, and the results were great. The sales manager is an excellent person, and a pleasure to do business with.

For a population of 5 Million finland certainly produces a large number of quality products and hockey players.

I especially like their snow tires (and you thouight I was going to say phones).

Thanks for the input, it sounds like it would be a worth the time to attend the session.

Cheers

I put a small pair of Genelecs against a pair of Dynaudio Contour 3.3s and was blown away. Only thing is that you have to remember to tell the electrician that you need an outlet at each speaker location due to thier built-in amps.

They just introduced a small 4 inch 2-way system with a sub, that I guess is really amazing...

What the hell else comes from Finland ???(I should know my mom was from there!!!)
I think Bjork is from Iceland...

Great speakers though... and I'd put their big system up against the JBL synthesis anytime, although the JBL system IS pretty nice. If you're really bored, google up their website and check out HTS6 sub!!! and the 1030series of theater monitors! The woman that owns the company I work for has the big Genelec System in her home theater, and it stuns small children and pets...
Even at low volume levels the bass is super tight, and low, and the mids are totally clear - not muffled.

When you install one of their tri-amped systems, they fly a factory guy out to totally tweak it for you.

The HTS6 won a subwoofer shootout last year against all the top subs, and second place wasn't even close. We had one in our store for awhile. We knocked a picture off a wall two bays over, pretty awesome. We had one man in who said he hadn't felt anything like that since Viet Nam!

The big three-way system is meant for a 22,000 cubic foot room, and will play at 132db. I'd like to get a pair of those!!!

The HTS6 is a beast, but very articulate and musical.
They use four very high quality Danish 12" drivers for that model... Triad uses the 10" version of that same driver in their Bronze sub.

I do not sell and have not sold Genelecs in any way, but I will definitely give them their due. They make some of the finest speaker systems that are available from anyone at any price.

Meridian Active loudspeakers would be the closest comparison to Genelec for mains, but Meridian really doesn't have a sub like that.

I have a military bolt action rifle from Finland... Sako TRG-22... very fine piece of equipment.

I know Genelec for their near field duties, but not sure of their perfomance, or more to the point, value of the product versus other vendors at the same price point. A very small mini monitor mated with a sub requires some careful placment to allow proper integration with the low end... actually, my favorite setup, but doesn't seem like most custon installations allow this.

Their larger products were designed for control room use, not sure how they perform, but know that they are expensive.

Good, no doubt, but are they versatile?

You have to remember that at the same price point, you need to include amps with other speaker (most anyways). So by adding your speakers plus amps, and if you want to be fair make sure you have an amp channel for each driver, the Genelecs usually are a bargain at the price.

Genelecs can pound you with a very small enclosure, yet are some of the most musical speakers I've heard. When you take one of the small speakers, then compare it to the next step up they sound very similar. Genelec designs speakers for room size, then gives you adjustments (treble, mid, and bass roll-off slopes) to make the speaker sound the best it can in that room. As stated before, about the only other speaker that will do that is Meridian, and Meridian is a lot more expensive.
