Hoping for a liitle help here. Just pulled a new Samsung HLR-6167W out of the box
and installed in a clients home. Because the installation is something that I don't have
access to in the back, I installed all the possible cabling combinations he might ever
need and brought the connections out to a cabinet where I could get to them. As I
powered up the set, I can only access the 2 AV inputs, 1 S-Video, and a DTV input.
These are highlighted in the menu and the others that I need (like component and PC) are
not highlighted and cannot be accessed. Believing that they probably do some kind
of polling on what's connected on power up, I unplugged the TV for a half hour and
connected up all the peripherals and powered them up, then plugged in the set and
turned it on. I still can't access anything but the inputs mentioned! Is there some was
to turn off the polling (if indeed that is what's happening), or does anyone have any
ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Do you have any pieces powered with signal running into the inputs that you cannot access......Usually they need a source, like a monitor needs a computer....

Hope this helps

Yeah, almost all current Samsungs (both plasmas and RPTV's) - or at least the ones I've dealt with - have to have a video active on the input, in order for it to show up on the scroll and in the menus. It should be as simple as turning on your respective sources and then, power up the TV.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

Thanks guys.... Stupid trick on myself I guess.... As it turned out, with this install it
was a shoehorn width wise -lots of depth for air, but in placing the set, both component "green" (sync) cables pulled loose. One of the other two might have just
given me a distorted color picture, but losing the "G", I lost it all. Hence I didn't get either the cable HD or the DVD. I connected up my laptop and the VGA input worked fine also. All is well ... except.... I can't figure out how to change sources via a discrete code. Does Samsung allow this. So far I can only change inputs by toggling the source button and it powers up in the last used. I suppose I could send it back to a known state before powering down and then I'd know, but is there another way?

if you use the following commands then you can have discrete input selection

1) press anynet

2) press select (anynet displays options but "watch tv" is always on top

3) press source, repeating this until you get the input you want (this will always switch to the first video input connected to tv
ie: component or video 1 ) if a video input is not connected to tv the source button will skip over it
you should use 1 to 1.5 second delays between these commands
I hope this helps you this is my first post .
by selecting the anynet feature, even though the anynet is not setup you can always get the dlp set to a "known state" such as tv or ant 1 input

so anynet then select will always get you to the tv input ant 1

good luck
John

I will sure give this a try... Thank you so much for the tip. I'm guessing that there could still be a rub when inputs are added and deleted (ie:video games and PC's that come and go. This would mess up the sequencing wouldn't it??

CHeck the discretes for these, you should be able to make a few of them work.....

I am pretty sure S-Video works for sure, but from there your on the way to becoming a wise grasshopper (taken from old Kung-Fu movies....they always refered to the learning one as grasshopper)

You'll find many Tv's that work only part time to commands and some with exact discretes...some of the models work well on Samsungs and some don't.

Good luck and I'll post a link to the existing codes.

if not that check these

Thanks to PHS JASON for this.

GOOD LUCK

Man, I think we're on to something here.... Thanks for your great reply. I'm still pretty new at this. Perhaps you can help a bit more and point me toward where I can learn to convert the HEX code into something the MX-850 could use. This will be a lesson well worth it once I do it once.
Thanks again

Do a search on how to use Pronto Files in your MX remotes

I typed a page and a half on this and lost it somehow.....

Its a learning experience, you'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

Download ProntoEdit4
Make a Template with all the buttons of the Samsung
Cut and Paste the hex codes into the pronto buttons
Save the Template

open MX program
import the Pronto codes into the MX remote
use the button at the top toool bar that opens a browser and selects the CCF file of the pronto

Save the file when done
Test Test Test
some may work some may not

Good luck
