Can, the simplest way to tell the electrician what you want is to ask for a single-gang box in the ceiling, and one where the equipment will go, and to run a 14-2 between them.
I suggest placing the latter near the stack's supplying receptacle box, even on the opposite side of the same stud, but mention to him to not use one 2-gang box for both devices.
Remind him that this needs to be an isolated run of Romex, and not to add any other wires to either box, unless you see a need for a second power feed, like to a screen motor, etc.
Believe it or not, we haven't had a chance to use the extension yet. Soon, though.

Only that it is mounted on a plastic (unbreakable nylon) single-gang plate that will mount to a single-gang box, and isn't metal with a flip-open rain cover.
I searched their entire plate PDF and couldn't find a suitable plate; one that will both accept the inlet and mount to a single-gang box. Can you find one? Hmm...I'll have to look at how we have done it. I'm almost positive it's in a single gang plate, but since you are making me think about it I will doublecheck. I'm absolutely positive it's Not with a flip open rain cover.

What kind of application is a power inlet used for?

So, for example, the power to a ceiling-mounted projector can be fed from the same power-conditioning device(s) as the rest of the system. If a ceiling receptacle has to be installed anyway, why not make it clean power?
The one in the pix was installed under an equipment box I cut into a wall, and the other end feeds a recessed clock receptacle behind the wall-mounted plasma, and they're linked with 14-2 NM cable (aka Romex).
Imagine it as a hard-wired, in-wall extension cord.

Just to throw my .02 in, We had Larry install one on a job last week in worked out great. Thanks Larry (sorry about that second trip...but you know we could not install it). This configuration was used on a job that involved a plasma, but I would recommend this configuration for any remotely located devices that are tied into the A/V system, such as front projectors, plasma displays, and powered subwoofers.
Again, thanks Larry.
