It was actually somewhat funny when I got to putting the projector in but the customer said to put it there anyway! I did but it is just unwatchable! Here is the setup!

It is installed in a very large factory in one of the many meeting rooms. However in this part of the plant it has a lot of ambient noise as well as vibration. Anyway when they built this new room whomever installed the acoustical ceiling grid attached it in places to a couple of huge what I assume is steam pipes, and they really shake!

I used a Chief CMA-455 Tile mount as I do very often so it sits in the ceiling grid and hence the vibration. Anyway my question is have any of you ever used a vibration isolation system before that has worked for you? Chief makes one but I have no experience with it and figured I would ask here.

Oh one other note before anyone points this out! Yes of course I realized the grid was vibrating and yes I would have loved to mount it differently in order to avoid the shake. BUT the entire room is actually vibrating a small amount soooo no matter where I attached it it was going to vibrate some. If I had used a long 1 1/2 from the above ceiling (15') can you imagine the amount of shake I would have had...hell it coulda been a ride at some theme park!

I would think that the answer is to find something that isn't vibrating somewhere, and find a way to mount to that... Is the ceiling (15' up) really vibrating? Perhaps use two 2" pipes (like we used to use for heavy CRT projectors) and fashion something to mount the one mount to the two pipes?

Good luck - sounds like you'll need it!

Actually I am not worried about it since I made immediate note of it before I ever installed it. I do want to help if I can of course!

Things that make you go hmmmmm.

DLP projectors, or LCD projectors, have short lived bulbs. They generate heat. Wouldn't vibration from this situation cause the bulbs to fail prematurely?

And, wouldn't installing a dlp/lcd projector in a basement where kids run accross the floor above potentially cause the same problem?

Wouldn't an isolation mount make sense for that installation?

Vibration problems are so much fun.
Here's what I suggest, see if you can use either of Chiefs CMA-347 Projector Vibration Isolator or CMA-345 Structural Ceiling Adapter with Decoupler. If you can't or that doesn't work visit Vibration Mountings and Controls, Inc. @ http://www.vmc-kdc.com/ and go to their Vibration Hangers section or Pad Mounts. Any of these options should help you resolve the problem, but before you do any of this try to measure the amount of deflection you are getting that will give you a real clue of the correct product to use.
Hope this helps.

Kind of off topic, but I have a question. How do you all go about landing commercial jobs like this? Conference rooms and so on.
I have never actually sought out this type of job, but would love too...

Try a separate thread. The only people who will see your question here will be those who are intrigued by vibrations. If your question were the title of your thread, people who know about this would go there.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Sounds like a problem that you need to throw a lot of beer at.......

And after enough beer, it'll NOT be a problem.......

What about putting a +/- 10,000 gallon tank of water in the room directly above to act as a mass damper?
