Just as the header says. Just got a call from friend that they can hear the neighbor's CB radio on the home theater and the computer subwoofers.
Only thing I can think of that the neighbor is putting out to much power??
The subs have been there for a while, but I guess the CB was just put in. Or at least something happened with it to cause the change.
Any ideas or suggestions??
Thanks

Complain to the FCC. Amps on CBs are illegal and dangerous to audio gear especially FM tuners. BIG fines for this kind of stuff. [Link: home.att.net]

I have a k40 CB stuffed in a drawer somewhere that I always intended to put in the blazer...
My cousin was an amatuer radio freak a few years back and CCD is right on. Unless a guy has a license, he cannot output more than a few watts.
There are radio hacks who will get in a hop up a stock base or mobile radio to output 10-20 watts easily, and there are plenty of illegal amps readily available for these guys that can go up to a few hundred watts of more.
When the radios get tuned up or "peaked", the circuitry that helps keep the output clean gets out of whack at the same time, so when the radios are keyed up the sloppy output comes in over nearly anything with an antenna in it.
Single ended (RCA) line level cables are a big antenna, and the best way to try to reduce it is better shielding, grounded only to the preceding component.
There are plenty of weekenders who can find the gain pot on the schematic, but there aren't too many weekenders who know how to get that extra power set up right.
I have seen some of the radio guys key up their mobile systems over fast food drive thru speakers from a block away...
And yes, the FCC is VERY interested in meeting these people, and they have the ability to triangulate them in a matter of minutes when they are actively trying to find them...

U watch an old trucker movie recently?? or just smoke somthing real strong? No, if it were the latter, it would be more like: "Hey, dudes, what's happenin'!? This is, uh, this is... hey, what's my handle? I forgot, man! Far out! Anyway, I'm, um, just checkin' out the airwaves. Wow, I almost don't need a radio, I'm so, uh, never mind! Ya never know who's listening, right? Well, y'all be cool, man! Byeeeee!" Anyway, a few years back, I had a neighbor who came loud and clear over my phones (even the hard-wired ones!), the baby monitor, and every TV in the house. The threat of an FCC call cooled it real quick.

They don't need warrants either to come right in to your home and confiscate your radio gear... and that was the case BEFORE the "patriot" act...
