Definition of a Trunk Slammer...

That's the guy that was wiring houses for a builder here in Dallas. The builder was real happy with his work. He had installed a top of the line Bose system in the model home!

I clued the builder in, here's some of what I saw.

Ran CAT3 network cable (It surprises me you could still buy it!) for internet connections. They did home run the cables to a box in the Laundry Room, where they tightened a Cable Clamp onto all the cables, pinching every single one!

Ran a single ( yes, one ) RG6 quad shield from outside into the box, for use with Satellite, as the neighborhood was wired for cable, but not yet being served by the cable co.

Ran a single RG6 quad shield to each location for a TV. I really liked the TV alcove they built in the family room. The only outlet involved running a cord out the front of the unit, and around the corner to a wall outlet.

Ran 22ga solid copper for the speakers in a dedicated home theater. All locations ran to boxes placed about 7.5' up. Left and Right Front were about 4" from the corners of the front of the room. Of course he allowed for mounting the surround R and L on the back wall, again 4" in from the corners.

i think most people took my post for what it is......if
you do your fiber properly reallly no use for
the big analyzer to check reflections....even
though you put it on and test it only to find
you did another quality termination......

Terminations are checked to make sure the job is done right, rather than making the customer troubleshoot why they aren't getting full bandwidth. Good fiber terminations are not that easy. Doing good careful work, about 5% will not meet full spec, but they'll be close.

I guess you're just a horseshoes kind of guy... close is good enough.

got asked to do a place in chicago last week.....almost done house. electric is in , phone is oin and cable tv is in....i asked why i was there.......to do the satelite install and make sure he can have his plasmas with equipment in closet.......

turns out coAX RUNS WERE RG59(CHEAP STUFF) looped as the builder callled it and the phone lines were bell wire daisy chained as well. wants almosrt a million bucks for this house......

what a joke..... i got my sparky bash in subtly and then said how much you think it will cost fo me to do what you want......not much a couple hundred buck is what he said......

i told him he better sit down, so i did a rough estimate in my head with him adding up the numbers as i spit them out......$3500 bucks with labor.

10 runs or rgbhv serial digital coax.....cable willl be almost 2 grand

well to make a long story short still have not heard back from him, cuz he is looking foir cheap and not done properly

what a shame..another million$$$$$$$ house up in smoke

bcf why you busting my chops.......we do check every connection and 95% of ther time they are right on the money.....SO AGAIN I GUESS I NEEDED TO CHECK IN WITH THE R.C. CHAT POLICE

no need for a horse shoe up my ass because like i said if you take your time and do a good quality job..........when you put on the tester it magically works as you told the cuastomer it will. and about 5% of the time you gotta start over.........

so like i said no real reason for tester but you gotta have it just so you know for sure
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

I have no idea... My builder insisted that I use the guy. I told them that if that was their idea of quality I would be looking elsewhere.

You say some places, we check every connection, and elsewhere no need for an analyser. So... Do you test your connections with an analyser or not? Perhaps you think a failing connection doesn't pass any packets?

I check mine, because the 5% that fail testing... pass data packets! Yes, a failing connection for me can pass data, but not provide full bandwidth.
