Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to HDTV (Acually very new) My system consist of;
Denon AVR3801
Epson 51c projector
DVDO PRO ISCAN
DVD PLAYER W/COMPONENT OUT
RCA DTC-100(I have direst tv,with hd channels)
CABLE, TIME WARNER
HITACHI VCR(NO S VIDEO)
I have no idea how to hook up. Can I get a convertor for the RCA dtc100 and run it thru the dvdo? Then in to of the receiver? Do I hook the Epson straight into the RCA 100? It's confusing to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hire a pro. We're good at what we do, and the system will work. Go to Cedia.net for a professional near you.

You should start by reading all the manuals. I'm sure all the answers are in there (some where).

Good luck.

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass - I was actually trying to help.

After reading my last response, I have to agree. It does sound kind of stupid.

Hector is right, though; if you do not know how to hook things up, your best bet is to read the manuals. This will tell you what the possible variations are. You still may have to seek advice as to which variation is better, and that kind of question will probably get you a good answer here.

I do systems fo a living, and every system could be hooked up different ways. I always make a decision or two, then go ahead, but I have years of experience that includes unwiring and rewiring less-than-great setups, or setups with dumb but allowable flaws, so you should get more understanding, then ask not so generic a question.

Actually, now that I think of it, the way you asked the question is so generic that the easiest thing for you to do is hire someone who already knows what to do. We gearheads tend to give you the benefit of the doubt, though, and assume you are ready to plunge in and learn what it is about. Heck, you found us, didn't you?

2 cent time:

If simply wiring the components together with the usual interconnects is throwing you, or you're not sure which of several ways to hook them together, try drawing the hookups first. I did this to decide how to interconnect my laser disc player, which has both RF (AC-3) and DTS outputs. I had to use an Audio Authority auto switcher.

Start with the receiver in the middle, the sources to the left (or above) and the destinations to the right (or below). Use single lines to keep it simple, and just label the lines with L & R, Video, etc. The receiver should be able to do all of the switching. That's what it's made to do.

However, if it doesn't switch component, and that's important to you, then you'll have to locate a component switcher, either automatic or manual, and switch audio to keep in synch. Otherwise, settle for S-video or composite, and use the receiver.

The only other possibility is to hire an installer, or at least find a friend who is more familiar with hooking gear together. It's well worth it in the long run.

Hello again. Thanks to all for the help. I've been researching this since I posted. I have drawn it out as Larry suggested. It really does help. My only problem is this: The dct100 don't have component (3 cable out) but has the 15 pin connector. The reciever has component in and 2 outs (suppose to handle hdtv?) The Projector has only the 15 hd connector.I still can't figure as to how I can run a progressive dvd player and the Direct tv to this. BUT, will this work? Come out of the dct-100 with a 15 pin to (3wire) cable, and run it to the reciever, then run a 3 wire cable to a 15 pin cable to the projector. I would still have a component open on the reciever for the dvd player. Will that work? Thanks again for the help. I haven't done a lot of this, but, it's fun trying to figure it out. Roachone

Roach I don't know if that will work without a transcoder as I told you in you other post. If it works it is called a breakout cable. See if you can find one local that will accept returns if it won't work. If it does work it would save you some coin on the transcoder.

Can anyone here verify this will actually work?

I am a Denon dealer. I love my Denon equipment, but with all electronics you have a downside. I am not familiar with your epson projector, but I am sure it is loaded with inputs. Don't make this more complicated than it needs to be.

As the other pro's here have said, there is no one way to hook up a system. There are converters available to take the HD Monitor out of your DTC100 and convert it to Component. I don't recomend this.

1.I suggest you run a 15pin cable from your DTC100 HD Monitor out direct to the 15pin input of your projector.

2.Connect your DVD direct to projector via component.

3.NIX the DVD0 and buy a S-VHS VCR and run you cable box through the vcr and then S-Video out of the vcr direct to the projector

4.Use the Denon only for Audio, no video swithching. The Denon's have a video degrading problem.

Or, as suggested by the others. Break down and hire a Pro. Where expensive, but we know our stuff.

Here's my 2 cents worth...

Buy the optional cable for your projector to do HDTV...this is sold as an epson product....just your average HD15 D-sub to 3 RCA breakout cable may not work.

Get the transcoder for your DTC-100 I believe it's around $150.

Run HD15 from DTC-100 to the transcoder, then run the component outputs from there to the receiver.

Run your prog-scan DVD component output to the other component input on the receiver.

Run the component output of the receiver to the special cable on the Epson.

Run the various outputs on your other equipment, cable box, vcr, game system, etc. to the receiver's respectable inputs, take the outputs from that and run them into the composite or S-vid inputs on the projector.

Since the projector only has 1 component inputs, which is shared with the VGA input...you can'e do as RUDDY2 said, so you'll need the transcoder. But since I'm not familiar with the DTC-100, and don't really want to be...it might have the ability to change the output from VGA to component. You could then get by without the transcoder.
