A customer of mine wants to increase his FM Reception for his Custom House. I cant seem to find a outdoor whip antena.

Didnt there use to be a FM2 antena that was just a whip?

Any help? I dont want a Large antena.

Thanks
Dave

We just did a Terk FM Pro inside of an attic for a customer of ours that was split to 3 tuners and everything worked great and the antenna is small and an easy install.
with all do respect... i had no idea that you had an experimental surgery to have your balls removed.

We normally install an Antenna Craft FMSS in the attic on every job. Works well.

Just for general information......In a pinch, you can use plain old coax.

Strip it back to where you have nothing left but the center conductor for about 30 inches. That will tune it for roughly the middle of the FM band.

Connect the other end to the tuner normally. Works just like a car antenna. FM is broadcast in both the horizontal and vertical planes. Since there is less man-made noise in the horizontal plane, mount the thing horizontlly if you can.... But will work fine either way.

The only FM antenna I use. Many installs get split 6 or 8 times depending on the whole house audio setup and they work great. SIMPLE to install too. Put it in the attic and forget about it.

Plus good margins direct with no requirements.

FM antennas are mounted at right angles to the plane they receive. If you take the link to the Magnum Dynalab description, you will read that their vertical antenna focuses on the horizontal plane.

I usually use the signal from the TV antenna, but I don't know if you are using a TV antenna there.

Are the signals in Santa Barbara pretty much coming from one place? If not, the Winegard may not get everything equally well. And if you are in a canyony location, a non-directional such as the Magnum Dynalab might give you multipath.

Try the bare wire approach first, and see if orientation matters. This will help you decide if you need a horizontal antenna (Winegard, for instance), or a vertical one.

Don't be fooled into thinking an FM antenna should be 45" long because the Dynalab one is, either -- that thing at the bottom is a loading coil that makes it appear electronically to be much longer than it is, probably about 1.5 meters.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hey Ernie, the funny part is talking to any of the brainy tech guys at Magnum Dynalab will tell you that the ST-2 works fine mounted horizontal or vertical. In fact, most of my installs are horizontal at the very peak of the roof structure in the attic. One tech once told me to make sure the round part at the bottom is higher than the tip of the whip. Go figure.

Yeah, but what fleekin' model? I used to buy turnstile antennas from them but they discontinued them about 18 months ago and now have no omni FM antennas. What model do you use?

And, of course, and VHF antenna will get FM....

That Terk was discontinued because their AM loop antenna works and their multiswitches work and they couldn't stand to have THREE products that actually work!
