Now I completly understand and agree with all bose bashing. (Our moto for them is: Not only does it suck, it Blose.) The thing I'm wondering about is the Monster bashing. I would like to here both the pros and cons. Now I know some of you are a little shy when it comes to talking about products you don't like, but try and speak up and give me your honest opinion.

There is nothing wrong with the wire/cable/connectors. They are relatively good quality but overpriced when compared to ultralink, IXOS, Liberty, Tara labs, Straightwire, etc. The Home Theater Power Conditioners on the other hand, suck. We always use Panamax for surge/line conditioners.

I think it has been well covered in the last month. Just do a search for moster cable in this forum. Enough said.

Yeah, I don't think anybody really does not like the product. It is more the company and the way they do things. The "snowmonsters" thing is really grating, and has made many of us less willing to do business with the company.

As for the product, it's pretty bulletproof, with bulletproof literature that sometimes goes well beyond the reach of logic and truth. For that, look up discussions of "skin effect" -- a real thing in the RF world, but not in the audio world, but which Monster claims to be real down here in the audio range.

They also started the fearmongering about audio signals going one way along the cable. Their real reason for having the little arrow had to do with how the shield was connected, and it was valid, but it in no way meant that sound went one way down the cable. It was several years after they introduced this stuff that they came clean and explained it, but by then it was just ingrained in people that cables without the arrows must somehow be of lower quality.

Just for instance.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I tried one of these threads a while ago, and got bashed for it, but I agree... What's so bad? We haven't done a system without some kind of MC product in it since I can remember... Power stuff, digital cables, video cables... If the customer knows the name, and asks for it, why argue?

I heard a rumor that Monster sued the Discovery Channel for the use of "monster" in monster garage and monster house. The outcome was Monster will get a TV show this fall named...Monster Home. It will showcase consumers picking out M-Design products.

PS... from the same source. Monster Mints is the number one selling candy item in CC candy aisle at $4 a tin.

I am not a lawyer but I do think some of Monster's aggressive defense of its trade mark are the direct result of legal advice concerning how one interprets the law on trademarks. Specificly, if a company does not defend its trademark it may lose the rights to that trademark. My impression is that was seems like heavy handedness is one more instance of the law having unintended consequnces. Monster may be behaving agressively because it is part of its corporate ethos but it may also be the result of one more ill conceived law or judicial opinnion based on a law.

That is exactly my understanding of the situation... They found out in one of their earlier suits (m0nster.com???) that if they didn't protect (read sue everyone) their trademark really aggressively, there were big problems when it came to the 'real' problem infringement cases.

For me, theres nothing like unwraping a roll of cable to find it already oxidizing on the roll.

It also amazes me how thet can squeeze all that bass down that tiny insulated strand in the XP cable and therefore make it time correct.

Has been a long time since i have sold monster.

Do you mean to the HO or to the CI?

My boss just got back from California, and he has some really great things to say about Monster as a company. Yes they sell in Besybuy, however they have reserved product for the CI world. Infact they handed back a 200 million dollar check when BB wanted that High end line. Monster has not forgotten the CI world. They market everything for us. Ask a customer about interconnects...They go blank, but ask them about the "Monter Wires" to connect their equipment. They know all about that! I went on CC's website, and printed out a list of wires needed to connect a basic AVR,DVD,CD,VCR,CAB/SAT system. $659 . If I install the wiring for $600 I give the customer value

system. $659 ..OMG.

You do realize you are quoting prices on a public forum. Not the brightest idea in the world. If you worked for me you would be looking for an other job because this is something beyond stupid and in the rhelm of monumentally stupid.

Did your parents not teach you that some information is private? Or at least should be passed out only after making sure it's safe and secure? Think your boss would be comfortable with you discussing his margins with his clients?

Ah yes, the lawyer thing.....

The good old boy network gone wild...

Bunch of lawyers get together, write a law that is open to interpretation, so they may later file lawsuits due to the law being open to interpretation.

The best one I read about a lawyer?

In the "News of The Weird" there was story about a lawyer that was so zealous he ended up suing himself.....Ya just gotta love that one....lol

And apparently ScOtty had a serious brainfart.......?

I appologize....it wont happen again, but in reality. The product costs what it cost at the local stores. Does it really matter what they or us for that matter pay for it?
