Hi,

Does anyone make a component video swither with discrete control that is reasonable? I want to add another component video source to my TV and be able to have discrete IR control, ata stretch RS-232 control would be okay as well. What about a contact closure switcher with an x10 module and a transformer.

I am going to be switching a nintendo game cube and a DVD player into a Sony XBR.

Are things like the inline automatic 2 to 1 switcher confusing to use? I can imagine not wanting to turn the dvd OR the gamecube off and wanting to watch the other device so the automatic switch seems bad.

Niles has a couple of couple of composite switchers that might help you.

One is a 12VDC controlled switcher and the other is a automatic switcher. Basically, it senses when there is video on the “B” video input and routes it to the output if there is something there. Otherwise, the “A” video input is routed to the output.

I don’t think the got any IR controlled simple video switcher. If you have to have an IR or R-232 controlled video switcher you might look at ELAN’s Z-880 , a true 8 by 8 video switching matrix. The Z-880 might be over kill for you but it is a cool product.

EXTRON also makes some switchers that will handle component video signals and can be controlled by RS232. Unfortunatley, they will be pricey.

Hector, DZ.Caviar, Matt: did you see component switchers at any of those sources you referred to? All I see are composite, and I don't think buying three is the way to go....

I think Audio Authority might have something a little less pricy than Extron, but the Denon 3802 and all higher models do indeed have two component in, one component out switching.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

DZ - the avtoolbox matrix routers look very cool. Now if only they could handle s-video and digital audio.

Extron's is the best and you can use a xantech ir relay to control it.

Extron isn't worth it...and they're far from the "Reasonable" keyword in the criteria. JVC makes what you're looking for...IR controllable with discrete input selects. 2 component inputs to 1 component output, also switches composite, S, and optical digital.

They also make one with 3 component inputs, but it's not remote controllable. It is however, only 100 bucks.

I think these are more along the lines of what you're looking for, if not, let me know and I'll see what else I can find.
