lol, Yes but I just used a receiver that up-converts everything to component, but thanks. Good luck with LG, let me know what you think, I have been looking at them for a while.

What discrete codes are you having trouble finding?
I have got most of them off this website in the

Current supply, were you referring to Samsung discrete codes, or Sony discrete codes. I cpouldn't find any on / off codes for the Samsungs

I just got an answer on the Samsung remotes in the HTM forum from Andrew.

In the IR database of the MX3000 under 'TV" the top line item is 'discretes". Click on it and they all come up on the right hand column.

If you want a good entry level Plasma go with NEC, they are excellent and they have all discrete codes for on and off and all of the inoputs right on the remote.

If you want to get the best rear projection TV I have seen yet, go with the SIM2 Domino 55. This has a better picture than the Pioneer Elite RPTVs and colors that rival alot of plasmas I've seen. Oh, yeah, it's alot lighter than the Elites also:)

The thing is easy to program remotes for as well.

Any chance of sharing this info? I need to do this for a job that has that TV in the center, and 2 JVC CRT's on either side.

Luck of the draw.
Some work, some don't, different IR for same models.

Someone a hell of alot closer to the situation than me can explain better, and one who understands IR and manufactuers, the local Samsung repair outfit explained to me as many as 3-4 different suppliers for the IR equip, protocal in Samsungs, therefore codes that work on one HLP will not for identical appearing HLP.
Remote codes yes but not discretes.

Fred
Nothing I do is really anything that has not been already been hinted to on this site, I can't take too much credit.
But the codes available do work, they just need some love. You must send them multiple times ( four minimum) with various delays inserted, and each TV seems to like it differently.
Using an RF remote is important, as you can not expect anyone to sit there pointing the remote everytime for how long the process takes.
I have 12-15 MX-850's working with MRF250's on JVC RPTV's with no problems, just a few complimentary programming hours.
Oh yeah, you must use flashers on the TV's eye as IR line of site see above.
Not perfect but at least I know the variable I am working with, unlike the Samsungs.
Plus the Dila picture blows away any DLP.
I'm not going to even touch suggestions for controlling the CRT's, I know how I would do it, there are much better on this forum, at least more confident.

Sorry - had to bump this up as I'm confused. I haven't done a Sammy RPDLP for a few months but I never had a problem with the ones I did. I believe what you are all saying is that the IR is back to being as usesless as it was in the first generations?

And what about the plasmas? I've been looking for a budget option for a specific job over the Fujitsu and I thought Samsung might work but if they have no discreets that's not a budget option.

Who said NEC was a budget set? They cost as much as the Fuji from the pricing I just looked at, unless my NEC rep hasn't updated their website in six months.

LG scares me. I don't know why but I think getting involved with them will be a short term relationship. Of course that can be said for many of these companies as they bounce from one philosophy to another as often as I change my..oh never mind.

Philips scares me more though so I'm quickly running out of options.....

LG and Zenith have been pretty integrator friendly as far as discretes go.

Check your NEC pricing again Ted. I sell both NEC and Fujitsu and there is a difference.

Just talked with my distributor. You're right there is a difference and I had the right numbers last night I was just looking purely at retail pricing not the margins.
My distributor did a pretty good sell for the set, arguing that the NEC can have a better picture than the Fuji.
So maybe I should consider that set for this job but on the other hand the NEC 42" HD panel is all over the internet for a couple hundred over cost. There are a few places on the net selling Fuji but it is genrally a much better protected line.

On the Samsung DLP's, you can remove the small sqaure access panel above the input plate with one screw and either place an emitter directly onto the IR pick-up(located directly above the lens, clearly visible, but might be a reach), or place an IR blaster just inside the access panel which will reflect off the mirror. Either is doable in just a minute or two. Not as good as a rear jack, but still doable and very simple.
The discrete codes for the newer sets have been changing quite a bit lately with various versions for different firmwares and models. I was working on a complete Samsung IR file with all the codes, both new and old, but got over-run at work. I will make a point of sitting down and finishing that file this week and posting it on here as soon as it's complete.
